Crap!!!!!!!
I just did a few small things on the build at the end of last week. Covered upper and lower decks and then glued the upper deck and I am pissed.
I consider myself a very detailed and clean builder. I come from the old days when we had three glues; epoxy, CA and wood glue. I decided to try some of the new polyurethane glues. I purchased the Gorilla and Titebond. I read they expanded a little bit and even tested both on small test. Yes they expanded a tad. Soooo I glued the upper rear deck down with one of them and have been wiping the thing down for half an hour. It is till expanding. What a fricken mess. I hope it sands easy.

I made sure I would never have this problem again, I threw away about $50 worth of the sh^t. I would not even give the crap to any friends if they begged me.

From now on I will glue the decks with epoxy and micro balloons.

What I really don't understand is all the bubbles in the stuff? If you have air bubbles how can that be a strong bond? Of course this all is just my opinion and I've always said my opinion is worth about .35 cents.

Sorry to hear that it expanded that much on you. I used it to sheet my wings when I built my Staudacher, but I don't remember how well it sanded. I'm sure you wiping it down as it was expanding would surely help from make a huge mess. If I remember right I used rubbing alcohol to clean up the extra I had coming out. Good luck with it! I know that sucks when something like that happens.

I haven't got back on mine, I hit some black ice Tuesday night and wrecked my truck. I ended up with some severe lower back pain which is starting to get better now. I hope to be able to get back on mine later this week.

Interesting, never seen the turtle deck installed before the vertical stab before (but remember I'm a noob builder relatively speaking).

Here is my thoughts on the glue.....number one with poly glue, if your humidity is higher than 45-50% DON"T USE WATER. There is PLENTY right in the air. I actually don't use bonding epoxy anywhere on an airplane except landing gear aluminum rails to plywood and certain parts of the engine box, rest is all wood glue. To me, it's too heavy and wood glue works just as good and is easier to use in most cases. You will find that the gorilla foams a LOT, the titebond foams much less, quick gorilla foams much less and sets quick but is not as strong.

I use Gorilla wood glue for almost my entire build (except where CA is acceptable). I've really gotten to like the new Titebond CA's, they work exceptionally well with microballoons when bonding plywood.

Sorry glue babble over, with builders it almost as bad as oil threads

I mounted it on purpose. I will be using a laser to mount the vertical stab and have set temp mounts for it. Hard to explain but I have done it on scale planes many times. I will take pics when I install it.

Yea, learning a lot about the new glues these days.

Spats...sorry you had some glue problems. I have used the Gorilla glue a lot. It does foam big time so you can’t use much and don’t need much. I haven’t used epoxy for my builds for a long time. It's to heavy compared to the wood glues out there these days. I use a lot of CA because I like the fact it soaks into the wood joint and not lay on the surface only.

Spats....Noticed on your pic....I run a strip of mask tape (blue is better) down the glue joint area. This will keep the poly glue form pushing out to show surface areas. The poly glue will fallow least path of resistance so close the show seem with tape will help.

I was happy with the sanding on the glue. It actually sanded off easy. I know Rick, the darn epoxy is so heavy. Got some work done tonight but did not get pics so tomorrow I'll get some pics. Things kind of slow down now. Doing some test fitting of things, mostly the engine. Spent an hour looking at the cowl coming up with a plan of attack. I think I'm over thinking it LOL. Gotta get a lot done this week, a friend dropped off a Yak I need to build (assemble) next week for him so that will put me back a week.

Question, I am looking at the wood for the L.E. and T.E. that I need to angle cut. Is 1/2" wide enough to get good throw for 3D flying? I am thinking I need 3/4" and remove more foam?
