Another question for Tom, what size prop are you running? The manual says for break-in to use a 24x12 which is kinda hard to find, the LHS has a 24x10. Did you ever try the Belia 22x10x3 Corsair prop and if so how did you like it? Looks like you're flying a 2 blade.

Engine won't be here until Saturday...
 
I ordered the Saito FG-90R3 today, I'm hoping it's shipping out of the CA warehouse so I'll have it by this weekend. I'm hoping the LHS has a suitable prop for break-in, I'll check tomorrow. I'll be running Red Line oil from the first start, 15:1 on the break in and then decide about moving to 20:1. Looking forward to getting this project completed, I'm down to a couple props and a tech-aero IBEC as far as parts go.

Tom what did you use for a fuel tank in your setup?

I installed the tank that came with the kit. The rudder servo was relocated to make room for the fuel tank.

I'm running 2 blade prop. Xoar 24 x 12 PJA Series # XOAQ2412

Those Saito radials are incredible. I just got my 60R3 for a T/F P47 ARF. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I'm dying to hear it run. Your Corsair should be AWESOME with the 90 in it. I cannot wait to see it finished. . . . :big_yes:

Nice!! What oil are you planning on running in your 60R3? That should be a nice combo, will it fit in the cowl without cutting it?

I started working on a break in stand this week, picked up a 24x12 Falcon prop, some fuel line and a tank for the stand. Hoping to hear it this weekend! I'll get a video for sure. I also ordered the baffle kit Keleo sells, for $12 it's too cheap and easy rather than making my own. I plan on using black covering on the front of the baffles, I've used it in the past and it works great. Or I may use the included dummy radial over it, depending on how it turns out.

Hey @camss69,

Since I would have to order Redline oil, I will be using Stihl Ultra HP at a little lower than 20:1. I use Belray MC-1 in my 3W's at 50:1 and it works awesome. Luckily, the 60R3 fits completely inside the cowl of the Jug with no cutting necessary. Kelvin has already sent me one of his exhaust rings for my engine. If you haven't ordered yours yet, you need to as his exhaust systems are extremely well made and make the Saito radials sound even better. If I had known Kelvin made the baffles, I would have ordered one as well. I may just have to go back and get one for my Jug. Please post your video of your 90 running. I have watched other video's of the Saito's running, but hopefully watching yours will help me keep me from going crazy since it's going to be at least a month before I will be able to do anything with mine.

Yep, I have the Keleo exhaust ring for it, I think I've watched every video of it I could find (well the 84 not too many out there of the 90) and it sounds awesome with the exhaust ring. I'm thinking I'm going to break it in with the stock pipes though, I need to mount the engine without the ring first so I can set the firewall.

Only had a couple hours today, worked on putting a shelf for the fuel tank in the test stand. Also drilled the holes to mount the motor and the big hole for the carb. I don't have any real woodworking tools so I had to make due with what I had on hand so it took a while. I ordered the Rcexel mini tach which plugs into the tach output on the ignition to keep an eye on the rpm's during break-in, only $10.
