Got it all strung up in the Vanessa rig this afternoon and like I thought it was tail heavy. Actually very tail heavy. Now granted a few things have changed since the crash. No more wheel pants, which were heavy and the the pilot was cut out.
The CG was at 8.25" from the leading edge. I am shooting for 5.5" to 6.25". It's going to take some serious tail lightening to achieve that.
It will take less lightening in the tail than you think. I think someone once told me that for every ounce you remove from the tail it's like adding 3-4 ounces to the nose. Put wheel pants back on it at some point though. Ain't right for the ole girl to be running around naked showing off her good to everyone and everything.
Yeah I'll have to buy some new wheel pants, it would be easier than trying to fix the old ones.
I think I read about 3:1 for nose vs tail weight. I moved 2 of my batteries to the top of the motor box and that moved it from 8.25" to 7.75". Then I tried adding 1.5lbs right on top of the engine. That moved it to 6.875", still not quite far enough.
I'm guessing it will take around 10-12 oz out of the tail to make it balance. That is without adding any weight. I removed the tail wheel assembly to weigh it and it was 3.1oz. And that moved the CG 0.375".
