The 'blue' eagle is one of three built by Curtis Pitts to fly around the Statue of Liberty in 1986 on her 100th year birthday and refurbishment.

Have you tried EAA and the Sport Aviation magazine archive?

Yes sir, there was the Blue, the Red, and one that I think was white. Finding info is hard, almost as if it never happened. I don't do facebook so could you downlowd those photos and send them to me. I like collecting all I can on the planes and what they were for. I have sent emails to EAA and Sport A mag with no luck, maybe they don't like me.lol

Looking it up by the N numbers it is still actively owned by a company in Arizona. Don't know what color scheme or anything. One would think there would be more info on the three of them.

You gave me an idea with the n-number. According to the FAA registry:

Red Eagle - N77MN - is listed as Pitts S-1T, s/n 1040
Blue Eagle - N49332 - is listed as Pitts S-1T, s/n 1039

Theoretically, if all three were built at the same time, then the other one would be either s/n 1038 or 1041. The FAA registry does list both as Pitts S-1T.

I found a photo of s/n 1038, N49331, but it has the standard factory red paint scheme. Obviously it could have been repainted or rebuilt completely.

The n-number for s/n 1041, N218MC has been deregistered. This could simply be because the renewal fee was never paid, but I didn't see any other n-number for this airframe.

Sorry, but I couldn't find any additional info.

I keep finding the same dead ends as well. Over nearly two years of searches have found many articles with a mention of the Red Eagle, only a couple of the Blue, none of the third aircraft. And as you I also chased the N numbers being they were build in order but that did not lead anywhere as you have noticed. Even doing searches of Curtis and his work has yielded nothing but the same, a mention here and there, but nothing tangible. It is hard to believe three aircraft of this type were built, flown around the statue in the manner described, and not one article of the event. There are many articles of everything else and even the bands are noted, but no Eagles. Very sad given what it took to build these aircraft and the celebration they participated in, well, were suppose to have participated in.

You apparently have Facebook, could you post a question in regards to that event or the aircraft? Somewhere out there someone has the story or something about the event, I would think.
