Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

TonyHallo

Thank you Jet.

Trimmed the wide ends off of the trailing link tube. The plans show smashing the tube to form flat area for the upper joint, the tubing used didn't want to bend easily really was not sure the flatten area would match the lower bend so a trunnion use make just like main strut, this was silver soldered into the tube, the flat side was shimmed with a 3/32" spacer while soldering which was amount removed from each side of the 3/8" round bar used to form the trunnion. The lower 1/8" tab was shimmed 1/8" while soldering. The upper and lower holes should be in correct alignment.

These NOS Dubro J3 Cub wheels are going on the Champ. They are the correct diameter however the scale size is off, the Cub wheels are 8.00 x 4 while the Champ are 6.00 x 6. They still will look great. They are the old pneumatic style no longer in production.

Yes. Had to use the exact model number to find them though. Initial searches found the newer versions only.

Got the spines cut out and lighten for the stab, elevator and rudder. The overall weight reduction was 30%, got tired of cleaning out the hole saws! Used "Seetemp" for transferring the outlines to the lite ply. The resulting thickness will be 1/2" once the 3/16" spruce is glued on to each side. Hope to make the trim tab functional on the elevator.
Running out of things to do. Got to check on my spruce shipment.

Nice work you spent a little time at the drill press but you did quite a bit of weight out of surfaces
