As much as I dislike standoffs, there are some cases where a guy just simply has no options. Take for example the Kolm 150 and the Behemoth Stang. I am going to have to use them so that I can space the engine at the proper distance. They will be short, for sure. But still a stand off. I would much rather prefer mounting the engine straight and "flat" to the firewall. I guess we're going to find out about the torsional twists also. I will need to design, (custom fit to the DS Mustang) cross bracing to support the weight of the 150 tres cylinder.I agree I dislike standoffs as much as much you do. Have ever given it any thought of making two diagonal braces to stop vibrational twists. I have sketched it out a few times but just do not have the tools to make the brakes properly.
I am really interested to know what your thoughts of the RotoMotor are. I have heard mixed reviews.
I'm finding thoughts of my next build to be primarily civilian aircraft. Tony, you are mostly civilian aircraft builder?
Nice scores! My trip to the Lebanon flee market yielded a Hostetler Cessna Aerobat 150 short kit and plans along with a 33% W. E. Technical Piper PA 22 Tripacer cowl and wheelpants. Both for $60.00. I'm pretty sure the cowl and wheel pants were made by Fiberglass Masters that is no more, both are blue colored polyester resin, a little on the heavy side but I'm quite pleased. So now I got to buy the plans for PA 22 and cowl for Cessna while they are available. I really don't know what to build next?
There still seems to some kits around your area they have become very scarce in mine, a lot of the old 40 and 60 siz but nothing in the 70 to 100cc.My trip to the Lebanon flee market yielded a Hostetler Cessna Aerobat 150 short kit and plans along with a 33% W. What is crazy too, is that when you do find a good kit still in existence the person holding it seems to think it is worth a million dollars. I understand rare kits are hard to find and will cost a little more when found. But sometimes it is so ridiculous. I have located two older Top Flite kits that I have been wanting for quite some time. One being the old Red Box P-40. Why? Because I sure miss the one I had when I first began flying so many years ago. A little special to my heart. The other being a Stinson Reliant. Dang, I want them so bad. But just not up to building another plane for a long time. And too, they want too much for them. Besides, I just really don't think I can stuff a Kolm in them. LMAOKits are becoming harder and harder to find for sure. I ordered the cowl and wheel pants for the Aerobat this morning from Fiberglass Specialties. Sent a note off the WE Technical as well. You never know when the suppliers will go away.
Spent the day playing cards, nothing accomplished today.
