Well I (my son and I) am the proud owner of a new SKYWING RC 32" Slick 540 EPP thanks to Gyro! He sent it as a gift to my son and I which we received in the mail yesterday! I wish I could have captured my son's face on camera when he saw it.... It looked something like this!

From the manufacturer:
This is one of Skywing's new fly-anywhere planes. It's made of 8mm EPP sheet, very tough and easy to build. With extra large control surfaces, you will be in absolute command. Fly it in your backyard, fly it during your lunch break, fly it anywhere (safe)!

Here are the specs:
Specifications:
- Wing Span 800 mm (32.5 in)
- Length 960mm (37.8 in)
- Flying Weight 190-220 g (6.7-7.8 oz) with battery

Requires:
- 4+ channel radio
- 2204-2206 size brushless outrunner motor
- 10A ESC
- 1 x g-gram servo for the aileron
- 2 x 5-gram servo for the tail
- 2-cell 450mAh lipo battery
- Propeller GWS 8043

Gary included the everything required for the build.

Unboxing:
The box was pretty bent up and looked like it had been in the tornadoes hitting the country right now but inside everything was in great shape except one area of the EPP that was compressed a bit but it should not be a problem at all.

Here is the slightly damaged foam. I don't think it is going to be a structural issue at all and the only reason I mention it is because I can't believe it's the only thing that was effected by the poor USPS handling!

I will get started on this super fun plane this weekend and will log the build here.

Thanks again Gyro!

Glued wings to fuse… then pulled apart to wait for it to get tacky but not wet then pushed together and let set for 2 hours.

Ok so last week I went to the next step of installing the main carbon fiber wing support and low and behold if USPS didn't crack that thing into a million slivers! Ok not a million but at least 10. The main thing about this particular size is it's 1/8th of an inch and square! Try finding that locally in a small town like Eugene. Well long story short I found an 1/8th round tube and so went for it. It fits well but we shall see if that becomes an issue. See pic:

Used lots of blenderm as it acts just like a piece of fiber glass sheets. Genius idea by Cody. I also put a dab on top and smoothed out.

Net was to get out the solder and heat gun to put the heart beat of the plane together.
ESC, MOTOR, BAT, and SERVOS.
Connected to get the servos centered and test the system. Works great. Using a r617fs until a micro rx comes in.

Glued the bottom half of the fuse.

Just test fit the servos and I will need to cut about 1/4 inch out in the two servo trays. The rudder tray fits good.

Until next time!

Made some more progress last night.

photo 1 (9).JPG
Installed servos and re-centered by plugging in the power system.

photo 3 (8).JPG
Built the push rods (couple drops of CA) and used the shrink tubing that came with it

photo 4 (5).JPGphoto 5 (3).JPG
Next I attached the push rods and then glued in the top half of the fuse

photo 2 (7).JPG
Glued the LG connectors.

Will continue on the build tonight!
