Starting Your Plane by Yourself, 60ccc or Larger

I know this has been rolled over a lot of times, but I live in the stick. The closes flying field is 1 hour away(one direction). What I am looking for is some ideas on what you guys are using to hold your planes while you start them by your self. I have my own private field and looking for some thing to hold my plane while I start it.

12" long heavy duty tent stake, 1" ratchet strap with sewn loops in the ends and an "S" shaped clip. Works well even with 40% planes. Important thing is to start the engine and don't run it up until you straddle the fuse to hold both elevators with your elevators.

When I forget my nylon strap I start them like this, or with the strap like this

We use 2 pieces of 3/4 pipe 6 foot long. Put them 2 ft in ground what ever width you need to fit planes. cover with pool noodles from walmart the inside of big noodles is 3/4. gives good padding for wings.

I, and several of my friends, use the JL Products Tail Trap. Works flawlessly. Easy transport and setup. As stated by Terry, only used for starting and prior to run up we all secure our planes by standing over the tail with the stabs against the back of our legs as usual. I felt naked at the field when I forgot it one day. True one person operation when needed.

For god sakes, anyone that is new to the hobby or gas engines.....NEVER EVER start your plane like flycanic did in his first video! For someone that claims to train so many new pilots I can't believe you would post that video.

I know I push your buttons for entertainment usually, but that is not how any gas engine should be started. Plus you clearly had it not only warm, but pre choked to start and run like that.

All my engines start on the first or second flip. You can ask Yakman. All my glow engines start on one flip backwards. You can assume what you want. The video was the first start of the day. You are right on one point though. I do not advice my students how to do this. Standing behind the plane is much safer also I have seen to many stick there hands in the prop when the person holding the plane. Please do not judge me on your experience.
