The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

So I will try to answer all the questions. This plane I built is just a good design. One place you can save some weight on these size planes is to use light weight covering. No landing gear as well. I fly off of grass so landing gear is pretty much pointless on something this size and if you watch most of my videos I pop it into a hover and just catch it when I’m done flying. I have built a couple planes out of that foam and it’s great stuff but it’s weight adds up quick.

Cutting planes this size my hand is easy. The cap I did is based off a set of drawings a buddy has for a Slick360. I’m not a huge fan of the slick fuse so I bashed it a little bit. Still though I think I had maybe an hour into cutting out the kit. Might I add I normally double up on all the parts and cut multiple kits at one time. Think I cut a total of 6. All where for the slick for local buddies that wanted one and then mine I just cut the fuse prices I need to change mine to a cap.

The couple of things I have designed for CNC cut have not been for laser but rather router cut. I draw everything to size and the guy that cuts the stuff his program adjust for the router bits. All I do is make sure on my inside radius spots that the router bit will fit and when I move the parts to the cut sheet layout I change the color of the lines. What I meen is that blue lines are for outside cuts and green lines are for inside cuts.

Yes this one has a much thinner airfoil but isn’t really any faster. Hoesntly it’s probably more stable at low and slow than the mojo. Not knocking the mojo cause it’s a great slab. I guess if you where in the throttle a whole bunch it is kinda quick but it’s still got a ton of wing area so it’s not gonna wind up tight. He designed them to be a easy to build and very forgiving 3D plane. It honestly really has no bad tendacies.

Thanks again for all the info. You are our profile expert that we go to for info and help. Personally I believe that I am looking at something that will be a 20cc size just need a little more size I believe it will be a little easier to fly and get into practicing 3D. Same 20cc size but make it electric. One thing in my area it is always windy and the little bigger size will make life a little easier.

Ok boys how do like this during the last summer my flying buddy had DLE35RA. It never ran well and shook the plane pretty good and just cold never get a good tune. Anyway about six months later I am repairing his Vactor 30cc and I told him I need a spinner to set engine and cowl. He drops the spinner off and while working with it I put the spinner on the workbench and spinner just rolls hard to one side I look at do it again and standing there saying to my self it should not do that. Anyway to make a long story short look at the picture and see what I had to do to make the spinner balance. While doing it, it is so bad that you start doubting yourself and start checking everything but no that is what it needed to balance.

I've been playing with a H9 60cc P-51.....one problem after another (Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr). Don't know why but at first the retracts didn't work, then they did.....then one quit, then the other one. These are those E-Flites. So with that put aside I'm finishing up the rest of the model. If he wasn't a friend, I don't think I would ever finish this bird.....one problem after another. Tonight I found the air scoop doesn't fit nicely on the wing nor does it mate up with the fuselage, so some more modifications are in order....

I do the same thing. I don't drill all the way through though in case I need to come back to a spot for a little more material removal. I even balance the spinner cone (separate of the back plate) itself with cellophane tape inside it. I have found that even the lightened back plates and cones need balancing as well. Always a good thing to do when balancing the prop is balance the spinner too. "Your engine and bearing love you long time Joe :)" .

You are correct the spinner and the backplate are pinned and then balanced as a unit.

Started the next project. Repairing the EF 60” extra. Flying in high winds for just a little bit too long and the battery gave up and couldn’t get it back to land it. Blew out the landing gear plate. EF has a wood kit for the motor box for about $22 and had most of the pieces I needed. Just some repair of a couple of frames further back and hoping this goes back together rather easy. We’ll see....
