Got a start on making a balsa cowl for the delta. The is the start, still a long way to go before it is done. close in just enough so that it looks wright and I can still get to the two fuel lines to fill and empty the tank.

Just going to cleanup the edges and as you said sand all the surfaces smooth and be done. Just have to do the final sanding to match the spinner properly.

Just looking at the pictures you have two there and it is a single what gives.

That other canister is for the DL50 that is going back in the Pilot Extra 330 78". The DL50 runs awesome with it and a filter on the carb.

I just got finished with the DJ72. Punching the holes in the canister did the trick! It sounds even better now (Got that tuned pipe "ting" to it). Did find it only produces about 6300 rpm with the air filter on. Got 6750 with the filter off (Falcon 24x9 carbon). I'm going to leave the filter on to afford as much protection internally because of the washers used on the upper rod end and that the needle bearings are not the best (too loose fit). It still pulls like a mule @6300 so I should see improved performance over the DL50 with a 23x8.
Four flips on choke and six flips to a running engine! :)

Surprised that the air filter would have that much impact on the rpm. But I must admit I run an air filter most of the time the only engine I do not use air filters on are the ones that the carburetor is on the back and the carburetor points into the fuselage.

The filter did not have any rpm affect on the DL50 but it does on the DJ72! Both are rear induction carbs. I'm thinking a larger diameter filter or one with say 25% more surface area would probably let it spool up more. But as I said earlier it does not really matter that the 72 is only getting 6300. With the 24x9 it still pulls extremely hard. Just guessing, I bet, it is getting 36-38 pounds of thrust. The DL50 I had on it was getting 34-36 pounds of thrust. The 72 "feels" stronger when holding the plane.

The steering servo is in and I got it to work with a solid steel rod no linkage, nut or screws. This setup will never move or change due to flexing or any thing. Use to do this on my 1/8 gas cars when we did 3 hour endurance racing.
This should cut down on maintenance and sloppy steering.
