All I can say is if you have completed all your projects you should not go visiting your flying buddy, but I did. So came home with an old plane of his it has been hanging up in the shop for a number of years. Then a I asked him are ever going to fix it and he answered probably not. Then he said do you want it. Well the rest is history. So I came home with a fuselage or let me say a tail and one wing. Driving home I said to my self are you nuts it will cost more to fix than buy a new one. So it needs a wing, wing tube 3/4 inch, landing gear, tail gear and just about a hole fuselage. ????????. Now sitting in the shop trying to decide what to do with the smashed 30cc Edge.

I know what I'd do with it! lol

You are correct that is precisely what I should do with it. The only thing is that I dare not say it but I have never built an electric plane and I have a motor, ESC and one set of batteries. Ok go easy on me just interested, love my gas engines way to much to ever be converted. But still thinking of fixing this just to have a try at electric planes.
And it will keep me of the streets for a while.

I first tried my 78" Pilot Extra 330sc as a 12S. It weighed almost 17 pounds! The new fuse I have for it is very light and I bet it could be made to weigh 14.5/15 pounds as an electric. I'm still putting the modified DL50 back on it though. Hoping for 14.5-15.5 pound weight. Should have 2:1 or better power to weight ratio :). Electrics seem to do better with ultra light airframes. If you think you can re build that edge to weigh 13 pounds or less I think you would have a stellar electric plane. Especially with the motor esc battery combo you have.

Thanks for that just give a minute to go and do some weighing and see what I come up with. So no more than 13 lbs that is going to be tough.

Ok this is were I am at, motor drive system is 5-7oz, the rest is 5-6oz that gets me up to 10lbs 13 oz which leaves me 2 lbs to fix half a fuselage that looks doable. I think if i work diligently at it 12 1/2 lbs is possible looks promising for a good 3D plane.

The blue prints are coming together. Little factoid, the otter when turbonized added 5.08 feet to the planes OAL. That’s a 10.8% increase in length!!

Puts me at a 7” increase to the nose.
I’m thinking of just plugging some balsa formers every two inches with 1/4” sq balsa along the outside for support and sheeting it. Should be plenty strong...? Especially with a few gussets in place. I’m hoping a motor for a 60” plane should fit nicely. So probably a torque 4016/500kv with a 2” spinner, 16x7, with a talon 90 should work. It’s basically the same size as my 84” TBM except a little smaller and heavier I’m guessing.
This has been kinda fun.

With all the "Electric Buzz" going around my half witted mind came up with a new Idea for a gasser....:ooh?:.

With Pilots new "Quick Release" Canopy system I decided to go "Switchless" o_O.

I made a removeable flight control board and "bused" power to "everything". Two 2S 2000mah Lipo's will get mounted under the rudder servo tray (One to the left of and one to right of rudder servo). All servos and ignition power simply plug in to it. To power up for a flight simply plug in the two batteries. When finished with a flight release the canopy and unplug the batteries. Like an "electric" :D.
