Scale Wendell Hostetler 30% Piper Cherokee Glass Fuselage Build.

Cut a little foam today. First cut the 4' x 4' block to the shape of the wing platform, then cut the airfoils. The platforms were cut by myself and I enlisted the help of my wife Debbie to cut the airfoil shape. One down, three to go, will cut the socket hole in the inner panels before the airfoil is cut. The right outer core weights 10 ounces.

Don't believe I will add spars. Ribs two and three will be 1/8" plywood to distribute the landing block load. The basswood landing gear blocks were salvaged from the first 30% model shown below. The gear strut are angled 3 degrees outward and it took some to make them so hopefully I can save a day of fabrication. I plan to apply a carbon veil under the sheeting from the root to 12" beyond rib 3.
After looking at the templates this decided to increase the wing tube diameter to 1 1/4" and plan to use an aluminum tube .058" wall. It has a safety factor of 2 at 5g loading, I don't expect 5g's during flight however the impact loading during a hard might be a few g's.

I wonder what g force I place on my landing gear?

If you are wondering, it's probably too much!
Cut the wing tube socket holes and finished cutting the inner panel airfoil shapes.

Tomorrow will work on the landing gear blocks and support ribs. Maybe put in a servo wire tube as well.
Might be ready for wing skins soon. I purchased 3" x 36" 1/8" contest balsa from National Balsa some time ago, I plan to use this and sand the balsa down to 3/32" after gluing the skins on.

The wing tube stuck in the socket on the above wing panel. I was able to get the socket out and start over. I left the wing tube and the parchment paper in the wing tube when I glued the second socket in, this worked well. This inner panel is now complete with the foam and third rib installed. Before starting on the other panel, the holes for the servo wings were cut. Many years ago I picked up 3' long 5/8" diameter cardboard tubes at the Toledo show, I have one left. Could not find anything online for this purpose, I did find 5/8" diameter rocket tubes 18" long. I may just leave the holes unlined, don't know. I forgot to put the hole in the first panel so that will get drilled.

If only I could get my hands on some blocks of styrofoam I would like to try and build a wing like you have done very interesting, enjoying the detailed explanations.

The left wing is ready for skins, the right inner panel need the third rib installed and then it can be married to the outer panel. Will start gluing skins today, have some business to take care of so I don't expect to get too far but who knows?
