Hello

I have a DLE55RA. At the moment I have installed a 22x8 VOX wood propeller. Max rpm on the ground is aprox. 7000 rpm. Engine has run aprox. 5 hours (1 Gallone). I will change prop to 22x10 because the aircraft is rolling away at 1500 rpm (on pavement).

How many rpm (idle & max) do you have with the DLE55RA?

regards

I’ve never put a tach to my plane sorry. I’m swinging a 23x8CF, it doesn’t roll on the ground at idle, maybe a tiny bit. The plane is pretty heavy and likes to stay put. I tune for a steady idle and smooth transition to WOT. A good tuning method to look up is Terry’s Engine Tuning guide (should be able to look it up easy enough) Sorry, not much help.

AKNIck has a very good point vs the Hitec HS5 series, but as I said, they work fine with my type of flying (Lazy sunday flying and STOL - I dont do any major acro or 3D with it..) I do not know the Spectrum world, but from what I see on the spec if you push 8,4V you get about the same performance as I have with my HS-5685MH so I would say that if you should be fine if you go easy.

I used the recommended sized alu servo arms without any issues..
Thank you, I plan on using the recommended arms as well. I hadn't heard of anyone using them yet and was curious how they worked. What sort of deflection numbers are you seeing on surfaces?

I think you’ll have just as much fun as I do with those servos lol! But really, they’ll work just fine. Run then at HV to get the best performance out of them and you’ll be one happy flier. Most people won’t notice over torque. Where the 250 Oz/in+ shines is the full span ailerons and rudder. As at full deflection at speed the ailerons will be hungry. And the rudder needs some extra torque if your relying on it for steering on rough terrain. I prefer faster servos (0.11) when switching directions quickly. BUT this is just a hyper bush plane. Don’t over think it! Go with what ya got!
Thanks Nick, I hear what your saying about rudder and full span ailerons. I might go a bit bigger on the rudder servo. At this moment I won't be able to run full span due to channel restrictions, only an 8 ch. (For now) I've also picked up a power expander (smart fly competition 12) so I can get (and keep) good voltage (8.4) to all my servos at the same time. Thank you for your help! I hope to work on it this weekend. I'll keep y'all posted!! Thanks again!

One of the main reasons for the larger servo arms in the wings was keeping the geometry even for full span ailerons while giving maximum flap deflection. Basically the flaps and ailerons are matched (move at the same rate of travel/always in sync) throughout their entire movement when in full span ailerons... yet when you dump the flaps the flaps only will extend down like a barn door.

I’m thinking of going with a DA 50. Any advice on spinner or muffler choice?
I put a DA50 on mine. I used a Slimline Pitts muffler. Prop spinner is a 3 inch TruTurn prop spinner cut to take up to a 23x10 prop. There isn't much cowl room. It took a great deal of time to trim the cowl to fit the muffler but it was worth it for the looks. One big issue I ran into is you can't slide the cowl over the exhaust pipes, or do anything to maneuver it on - I ended up cutting it on the bottom side behind the exhaust pipes - the cowl is flexible you can then bend it and go around the exhaust. I put a tab on the bottom with blind nuts where I then can bolt the cut pieces to the fuselage. Works great and looks great. You can use the included DLE 55 mounting template and with specs from both the DLE and DA engines convert it into a template for the DA. Took a bit but ended up with a perfect template. Overall it wasn't that hard to go DA. The only other item you should seriously consider it going to the upgrade LG now. Myself and another club member bought them at the same time this summer. The best way to put it is that Horizon Hobby should be ashamed to sell such a nice kit with an such a cheap piece of junk they call LG. His bent no matter how gentle he landed his.
