Apache Pass Ice House Freeze Fly

So did this fly happen? We did not make the two day drive due to weather reports. Just wondering if it did actually rain or was it a success?

    Pilot 30% Edge 540. Who's Flying it!?

A guy at one of our local clubs just got one and its his first gasser. I got him set up and I have to say, for a small plane it fly's awesome IMO. Rolls damm fast and is super stable at slow speeds. I think it will be a great plane for him to start 3D on.

This plane will probably be a good one to learn 3D on with such good wing loading.

I will think about the ailerons but not sure when I would use the flaps. I fly 3D in a very small box pattern within about 200 feet of myself and almost always harrier land within a 30 foot distance and that's with my 40% planes. I think this plane will almost land like a helicopter. In the...

Adam, I also use the MDF. very solid and flat. Nothing to be nervous about building this plane. Bipenut is right, lots of help here and I think the Viper is a bit easier as it's a pre cut fuse. But either way both are great planes.

Wow, where have I seen all this before? LOL. Looking great. I did the counter balance on the stabs also and I am thinking about doing it on the ailerons. I am not going to do the split aileron thing, it just to much to think about while flying for me. Thanks for the updates.

You are caught up with me now:) I have a band saw and cut one part with it but the rest I did the same as you. It actually was easier I thin k for the elevators.

Looks great. Glad your back on it. That looks like the same carbon I used. Very light and easy to cut. Did you glue it to the foam before sheeting. I used the resin for sheeting to glue both sides of the carbon. I am going to Texas for the Apache Pass Freeze Fly so no progress for me for the...

    This is soooo not good!

I didn't have a chance to read this whole thread so I am sure this has been said but here it goes.... I have found on some of my planes the Chinese carbon back plate gets warm and then as it's soft compresses from being tightend down and in turn ultimately makes the prop bolts loose. I set my...

Ah the heck with Rick, lets just hijack his thread. Just kidding :too-happy: But here is what I have learned about it. It dries pretty quickly for a non two part glue. I like it for gluing the phenolics because it does expand and fills any gaps. If it does expand where you don't want it and...

I have a friend that just did a plane in yellow and red. I like it and it's easy to see in the air. I don't deviate much from my normal, all my planes are the colors in my avatar pic. I have big rolls of it. Unfortunately it's all Ultrakote and I have never done a complete plane with it. I have...

Finished the stabs last night except for one mistake, I forgot to glue a piece. I wish I could say this is the only mistake I've made on this plane but I'd be a bigger lyre than Brian Williams:confused:

How can FG claim the name "Huckfest" ? The motocross guys have been using the name since the late 90's if I remember correctly.

LOL, the titebond takes a while to dry and the epoxy is heavy so yes, I got it out of the trash and gave it another try but only on the belly pan and a couple other spots I promise.

Looking great. Can't wit to see this at Nall. I went back to the poly glue on my belly pan. I'm learning how to use it. It's not the same as most glues. I've got it now so it does not expand out so much..

Just went back through your old thread Terry, I should do that more often. I could probably cut more out on mine as I only saved 3oz but not to worried about it right now maybe later. I don't know what it is about this vacuum thing but I love doing it and I'm getting all excited I get to sheet...
