Started working on the cowl, in particular, the tabs and the locking mechanism for it.

Any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
However, do not glue the tabs in at the same time with the rails. This has to be broken up into two separate steps. If they are glued in all at once, there is a risk of gluing everything together!!!

Step by step on installing the tabs to the rails.
1. after gluing in the rails and letting it cure over night, i then split it, and inspected to assure that the rails on same side set where exactly in same orientation and the slots all lined up.
2. I then took a very small file and assured that the tabs fit in thru the slots. this is critical, if you do not test this, and then glue them in, you will not be able to slide the cowl off!

One last clarification, the tabs will be on the top cowl. You then push the cowl down on the bottom cowl, with it displaced forward about 1/2", then slide it back. this is the locking mechanism in this system. It works great, as it is the same mechanism in my 300 ML, and it has not come apart with over 100 flights.

this demonstrates after i cleared it the slot with the small file, now it moves in and out smoothly and freely.

Step 3, now once you have cleared all the slots, then clamp the two sides back together, assuring that the tabs, again, go thru and thru on both sides.
Another critical point, is that when this is glued on, the tab has to face towards the back, and it also has to be completely up against the back of the rail slot. If it is not, it will never slide out (ouch!!!)

Last step is to glue them in, and assure that it is flush front to back and side to side.
do not get any glue in the tab or slot that will be in the bottom cowl piece.

Also, Tony, in the manual, used thick CA. I am using V-poxy, it will take about 6 hours to cure.

Looking great! How do finish the front of the cowl, the flat part? Do you cut this part out or do you cut just enough for the heads to get cooling?
