Sorry for the wait everyone. It's been a bit of a long week. But I did get off early today. Which allowed me the time to test mount the 128 quad to the intended airframe. I wanted to keep the airframe under wraps for a little while as I plan to do something kind of cool to it. (At least I think it will be cool) But unfortunately it is revealed while test running in the motor. Oh well, I still plan to do something kinda different with it.
That being said, I ran into a few little hiccups with the DLA after getting it mounted. Not the motor at all, but subsequent components attached to the motor. My advice? Take them DLA Iridium plugs and chuck them as far as you can. They are truly just about worthless. I got little to "NO" spark from them on one ignition module. And ZIP on the other. Come to find out, Hiccup number two turned out to be a bad ignition module out of the box. Course this was discovered after my son
@Shayne Epley and I flipped on that Falcon 28x10 for about an hour. We'd get a couple of "pops" and then nothing. I can always count on my son. He has not mounted his new DLE 111 yet so he ran home and grabbed his ignition module from that motor. Mounted it in place of the dead DLA module, replaced the DLA Iridium plugs with genuine NGK CM6's and what do you know? This little guy sparked to life almost instantly. A little difficult to get going at first, but once the needles were set right, away she went. So that would be hiccup number three. Don't trust the factory needle settings. Also, it would be my opinion, that DLA needs to revisit the ignition modules they supply. A DLE twin is a direct swap out replacement. I would think the RCExel also would be a great replacement module.
I am uploading a video of the second run right now and will post it here as soon as it finishes. In the meantime, I will say that the more that little motor that "can" runs, the better it gets. After the fourth and final run, I was up 150 rpm from initial start up rpm. Idle was basically smooth as glass from first start up. Last run with the Falcon 28x10 was just over 6300. I am feeling really positive once I get a couple of tanks through the motor and the Bowman rings installed, it will have no problem spinning that Falcon 29x9W at a good head of steam. Throttle response is snappy and crisp. Top end is like a Ferrari. All in all, I am actually quite pleased. Now all I need to do is find the time to get the plane built and the unique scheme done on it.
