Here are the instructions and setting I received. I'm not including a picture of the carb as you can't see any difference from the outside. I looked for a good while trying to find something new about it.

This note was on the shipping paper/invoice (no charge for this work by DA):

D2 Mod done to 12o carb

"Please follow instructions on sticker and do not make any needle changes unless 100% necessary. Needles should not be moved more than 1/8 turn in any direction. If engine is sold down the road please pass on instructions."

Sticker Label on bag:

New needle settings
HIGH 2-1/4
LOW 1-5/8
Let motor warm up
before making any
tuning adjustments

Colton told me that a bit of time to make sure the engine was warm before taking off is really necessary. He suggested a run of 15 seconds at mid-throttle.

Hello Don. Would you mind posting a picture of your modified carb and the instructions that came with it ?

Sounds as if one is to keep "those settings" alone and maybe they set them to your specific location? What concerns me is keeping a decent tune. At my location I'm at sea level but the air density can change in a matter of days during spring and fall causing a need to re tune. And this is with any diaphragm carb engine not just the DA120. Case in point......I tuned a 26cc and 55cc motor on the same day in late spring on a day that was cool (70F) and dry. The next time both engines were operated was about 2 weeks out on a hot (90F) humid day. They both would not start due to the needles being a too lean setting and a re tune was in order to get them running.
Luchnia,

I just got my DA 120 carb back from having the modification done to it. I currently don't have the engine in a plane at the moment so you are welcome to give my carb a try. Just let me know and I'll bring it to the field one day. It does come with specific instructions on the new needles setting and notes that you shouldn't monkey with these needles unless absolutely necessary.

I also pick up a set of KS 3086 which they highly recommend for this engine over other choices in the market. They definitely have more volume than the others.

Appreciate the offer. It seems odd that they would leave the needles set, or at least don't want them touched unless absolutely needed. I guess they are thinking someone might get them way off and have more issues than needed. I usually like my planes fine tuned, although I get lazy and just let it ride for the sake of flying, but really nothing like a fine tuned engine. I may just wait until you get that one going again and see what happens. BTW, how long did it take to get the carb mod turned around with DA?

Glad you got the cans. I think that is what I am running, but I forgot to check the last time I had the 120 out.

Damn I'm hungry
But they should get richer in hot humid weather not leaner.

On both engines the L and H needles were about 1/4 L 1/8 H turned in from the start point settings (1.25L 1.5H for 26cc 1.5L+H for 50cc). During tuning on both engines I only made a very slight adjustment 1/16L turned in (both engines) and left the HS needle on the 26 alone but opened the HS needle a bit more on the 50cc. And that's my story and I'm sticking to it

I honestly don't know why some guys will fire their engine up and then immediately run it wide open before any heat has been generated. This is the worst thing you can do for an engine, especially these 2 stroke air cooled engines. They need to have heat in them before turning the RPM's. I fire my engines up and let them run for about 15-20 seconds at idle before opening up the throttle. Then I run that engine up wide open for a handful of seconds to make sure it's well cleared out and good and hot before taking off.

DA didn't send me any specific running instructions with either of my new 120's I got this year, maybe I need to message Colton :oblong:

Some dude on here starting an engine tuning thread way back, it's a good process and works if you follow it. As you said, ALWAYS tune a hot engine and set your low and high idle after a flight. http://giantscalenews.com/threads/basic-engine-tuning.2806/

I asked Colton about the special tuning instructions and he said it's a special carb for those with can issues, does not pertain to most of us.
