Well, I'm headed out for my first flight on a new plane with HV set up tomorrow......I may look like a complete noob if I did not guess at my expo's. I know I can fly it good, but rollers get wacky if expos are not correct.

Actually if you practicing rollers and rolling loops and it always wants to kick out on you, I have found that if I fine tune the expos to make something slower or faster I can usually fine tune it. My nemesis is rudder, I set the expo on my rudder exclusively on if a rolling loop kicks me out. Like on this maiden I have a fairly slow 500oz servo on the rudder and I had the expo set at 30% by default in my RX. It needed to go to zero after I proved it twice in this maiden vid (fast forward to 1:45):

You may have just solved my problem! I have been battling learning this for two years, and with frustration on the verge, and not seeming to be any better than the first month of trying, I will put some expo in the rudder to see what happens! Thanks @Terryscustom !

Tyler i also noticed that if rates are off between ele and rudder rolling loops are tough. Especially if your rudder authority is weak. I find more rudder with just enough aileron (not too much though) and a little less than full elevator help tremendously with rolling loops.

This is probably a hard question to answer. How do you learn what rates and expo to setup? Is it all by trial and error, or personal preference? I am relatively new and it seems that I just stick some numbers in and fly, not really knowing what I am doing.

That's a good question but I think it does all come down to personal preference. I'm a thumb flyer and don't like to move the sticks a lot. I turn the sticks down all the way on the transmitter and bump of the spring tension to max. Then I start out with about 45% expo but very little on the rudder because the rudder is a stick movement that I suffer on so I move it less this way. Works for me, maybe all jacked up for someone else. When doing things that require multiple stick movements I just pay attention to what is over / under reacting and then burn gas.

Every plane I have different expo on each. Starting to learn rollers I found I had to cut the throw on my ailerons and keep the elev throw . Thank god for multiple flight modes

Damn I'm hungry
Bad habits play havoc and being lazy (me) hinders. I had been flying the Edge for 4 years and just finally increased the elevator throw a few fractions of an inch and adjusted down expo and left up expo the same. Have been rewarded with crisp low or high energy pop tops and a wicked KE spin now. Been robing myself Man!?

I had the same problem with slow hitec servos on myrudder of my 35%, then i got a hold of some MKS 777 servos and it really helped me fix my problem with a slow rudder . Now every trick flows better because i am not fighting the rudder.

My .02. Ive found that i like less expo on most surfaces. Too much and the plane feels like a sling shot, meening like on rolls you hit the spot where its more sensitive towards the end of your throw and really mushy around center. I use expo more or less to linearize and take the sensitivity away from center. If you watch my stick on rolling maneuvers i rarely go full stick in either direction and that is only for tighter rolling turns or loops. Well ailerons are pegged but rudder/elevators arent.

That sounds like my problem, because when I am hovering it tends to be mushy than suddenly it is about getting out of control.
