Been searching the web for a few days looking for a LM555 circuit that has adjustable on-off times for the the red blinking beacon on the vertical fin, finally found one here. For $8 got enough components to build 4 timers. Flew home from Texas last week and studied the blinking beacon on the aircraft, looks like about 1/2 second on and 2 seconds off.
The position lights (green, red, white) will turn on with the plane, the blinking beacon on the fin will turn on with the ignition, and the landing headlight will turn on with the flaps. Will probably have the lights hooked up to master switch as well that will turn all light functions off if desired. Started working on the left wing, slow day getting ready for my grandsons birthday celebration. Tomorrow I'll cut the aileron free.

555 Timers are extremely popular. No reason to choose the LM model. I have a circuit drawn out for a fading beacon, landing lights, strobes, and navs using 555 ic timers. You can utilize a 4017 decade counter ic in conjunction with a 555 timer to made those sync's happen the way you want. Thought about starting a thread on it... Let me know if you want the schematic(s) I created over ten years ago. LOL Was working on making a PCB of it but boy oh boy.... if you think CAD is hard, PCB design is in a world of it's own!

Definitely admire the creativity I see here. I’m the lazy guy who has the light controller in Draco which moves with the rotary switch on my transmitter. Has 7 different modes with combinations for all the lights on the aircraft, including the so-called backup light.

If you’re interested I’ll post the various modes with video. Link to the light controller at Horizon Hobby - HERE

@AKNick, can you send me the schematic? Isn't there a web site that will make a board from the schematic? Or at least I thought so?

@WMcNabb, my build is rather simple, only blinking light will be the vertical fin beacon. For more complex options the Eflight controller looks to be the ticket.

No strobes with your position lights? :)

Sure, Let me dig it up. As far as the control mechanism for the on/off you can get this:

I have a written schematic and a PCB schematic in progress. I'll PM you

Unable to PM you, might be your conversation settings.

Working on the tail lighting, the mount for the beacon is made from a 5/8" dowel, the lens is from a 1/2" panel light and the bezel was turned on the lathe out of 5/8" aluminum stock. The tail position light mount is a 1/2" dowel with a 10 mm 1/2 watt LED. The mounting flange is removed from the LED and the dowel is drilled for 10 mm. Super Fill will be use to finish off the mounts. The beacon reminds me of the "Local Cop's Cherry Top" from the Boss.
