    Glassing and Painting techniques

I'm about ready to to start finishing my giant P-51. Going to fiberglass it with .5oz glass and West System finishing epoxy. I've used several different types of paint and paint guns, including the 2 part epoxy spray can ($21.00 a can). This time, I've decided to use rattle cans for a variety...

    Robart Electric Retracts

Ok, I've been pretty hard on Robart, both here and in my conversations with them. I was really disappointed in the fact that i had problems with a $650 set of retracts before I ever got them mounted in the plane. Then after I got them back, I installed them believing that all my issues had...

    Robart Electric Retracts

Oh, well. I'm going to put the 9 volt battery in it and see what happens. Really disappointed in Robart. I always held them in high regard.

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

Cost - Benefit analysis; interesting use of the Chicago School of Economic Theory. I'm afraid that if we applied all the risk factors to our sport, there would have to be an extraordinary amount of benefit to put the equation into equilibrium. One might say that it would be impossible to find...

    Robart Electric Retracts

I mentioned that the battery might be an issue, but A123 batteries put out the same voltage regardless of the capacity remaining so I don't think that's a problem. Before I send them back to robart again, I'm going to see if I can resolve the issue myself. I'll keep you informed.

    Robart Electric Retracts

I got the retracts back from Robart last night. I haven't had time to install them yet, but from what I can tell just by looking, they have new bronze bushings and I think the side frames are different. The net cost to me was only the time between the 15th of May and the 16th of June. Not the...

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

That's why I don't fly jets. I'd cry like a little girl if I spent $7,000 on a plane and then turned it into a smoking pile of trash.

Oh, one more thing - one kind of oil.

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

The best way to save money on batteries is to use the same kind in every application. I use only A123's. RX, ignition, accessories, etc. AND, I buy them only from vendors that guarantee them to be first quality, genuine batteries, sourced only from A123. Radical RC, Electrodynam, and NoBS...

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

There are many ways to save money and buying used equipment is certainly one of them. BUT, batteries is not one of them. IMHO, buying used or cheap batteries is the worst investment you can make. The difference in the cost between high quality batteries and cheap batteries is directly tied to...

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

I think this is a discussion that we need to have. There are so many different ways of doing things, so many sources for RC products, and so many new Rc offerings that we need to hear each others experiences and philosophies. Having said this, I'll go first and challenge all of you to look...

    IMAC hobby getting expensive

This is a completely different site. I never would've posted my way of building anything on FG or RCU. Everybody there knows more than I do and they don't hesitate to tell in not so kind ways. I'm not at all opposed to saying that I buy most of rc needs from fellow modelers who for one reason...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I sure understand that. I saved up for a long time and even now, I have to be careful because the cost can sure add up in a hurry.

That's cheating!!!! But it'll fly better than mine. Got to be much lighter than the built up lumber yard I've got! Looks good!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! I have neither the imagination nor the skill to pull that off. I'm so glad to know guys that can do that sort of thing. When you do, I hope you'll share with us.

    Scale Plans built P-51

The last time I checked the Keleo website, they weren't taking any new orders, and the prices were OUTRAGEOUS.

    Scale Plans built P-51

Have your exhaust system on hand when you start building the T-6. The Keleo setup has a LARGE dump tank attached to the engine, and that in turn is plumbed to the exhaust manifold. Putting one of these in is not as easy as I thought. It's not as simple as changing mufflers.

    Scale Plans built P-51

That was my plan. I even bought some gas line to hook it up, but I just don't see a way to make this work. The outlets on the muffler are larger than the inlet on the exhaust. I haven't given up yet, but this plane just wasn't designed with that in mind. I'd have to cut significantly into...
