    Deadstick and close call

Close call a couple of weekends ago. Not entirely happy with my save, but the damage was limited to a cracked landing gear.

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

There wasn't really any visible damage, so there was nothing to hide. But of course one of the old guys who flies circles with his oldtime high-wing trainer came up to me afterwards and told me "You have to keep that airspeed up, you know". I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have been able to handle...

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

As far as crash damage, just a cracked gear. The crash was caused by the cowl coming loose and lodging behind the spinner back plate, so I'll replace spinner and cowl as well. Luckily, I was going to replace the cowl anyway because I changed the exhaust, so I have a spare at home. I...

    The 3DRCForums -Discuss Anything Thread-

I'll give you something to discuss! Rate my save! I'll give it a 4 out of 10 for pulling up two seconds too early. Should have kept my cool and flown it nose down until it almost touched down. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pc9qxdPZXJA

    Aerobeez 88" Slick 540 v2 (50cc)

Naaah, I'll keep it! It's a great flying plane. The gear just wasn't designed for idiots like me! :) No, but honestly, if Aerobeez is reading this, take it as constructive feedback that I'd personally take a little bit more strength at the expense of a couple of ounces of weight.

    Aerobeez 88" Slick 540 v2 (50cc)

There were angle brackets, but they were just attached to thin plywood. I'll take some pictures once I've worked up enough energy to take the wreckage out of the trailer. :) It was obviously a crappy landing, but not crappy enough to cause that much damage (if any damage).

    Aerobeez 88" Slick 540 v2 (50cc)

Well, that was a bit disappointing! Came in for a landing and the wind shifted 180 degrees, so the landing was definitely hot, but not that hard. I hit a small bump and the gear folded. When examining the damage, I noticed there's almost no reinforcements around the gear. It seems to be screwed...

    The rumors are TRUE!!

I'm not at all surprised. I wish them best of luck!

Booma RC lands in the Vendor Support Forums!

I love their servo matcher. I'm a noob at ganged servos, so this was perfect. Hook it up, turn it on and let it do it's job. Then forget it forever! 10/10!

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

When I win the MKS777 servos, I'll put them in and see if they do any better. :P

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

Yeah, I'm running them HV. I thinking it's the arms and not the servo. Once I work up the energy to get everything out of the trailer, I will check!

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

Oh, sorry. Forgot to mention that in the title. It's a 104" 3DHS Slick with a DLE120 in it. It's got tons of power and the 27x11 it's swinging makes it pretty fast too.

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

I think they're spot-ons. Gotta check the arms. Would be nice if it was just the arms and I didn't have to get new servos.

3DHS Slick eating Savox 1270TG servos

Today I noticed severe flutter on the tail surfaces on high speed passes. I checked the surfaces and it seems the linkages are tight, but the servos have a significant amount of slop. I think the problem may be that I have single servos on the tail surfaces and while the torque is enough, they...

2015 Joe Nall Predictions. What ya got?

Unfortunately, a pretty strong prediction is that I won't be there. My other prediction is that I believe there's SOME substance to certain rumors that must not be mentioned concerning certain bad-ass and awesome 3D vendors that I have a ton of respect for.

    Less pitch for easier landings?

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I have less than 10 flights on mine. And I've had the same experience on taxi. Faster than crawl speed and it will try to take off again. That plane just doesn't like to stay on the ground! :) On the flipside, it hs the easiest harriers I've ever experienced and a...

    Less pitch for easier landings?

About the idle: I'm probably just a little too paranoid about it stalling. But you're right: Once it's warm, it's pretty solid. I've got a DLE120 in it if I didn't already mention it.

    Less pitch for easier landings?

The 27x11 is a lot of fun. Insane speed and power and excellent for pop tops and other high energy stuff! Once I get the energy out of the plane, it's amazing for low and slow too. Hovers at 1/4-1/3 throttle.
