    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Thank you guys, after getting it home and checking it over the repairs are going to be easy. Earle, I think you may have a good point. The CG was in the most forward location that I came up with. I think for the next flight I will move the CG back just a bit. With a canard if the CG is to far...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Well it flies, it was the single most terrifying 4 minutes of my 47 year rc flying history! I ended up tearing the main gear out of the wing but it was only the 1/4" plywood mount plates that let go, and of course a bit of sheeting around the gear mount. My wife was suppose to film the event...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Ace R/C, you are correct, I did have a bunch of up elevator in the thing. I have found with this type of configuration (Pusher with trike gear) you have several things working against you. The first is the prop location, a high thrust line and being a pusher prop tries to drive the nose down...

How to: Make WWI Warbird Lozenge Camouflage Covering

Awesome article! If I ever do build a WWI model it will have lozenge fabric.

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Hey Jag, I am really trying to stick to my flight test plan. I wanted to be sure that the model would track straight and the steering was not to sensitive. After 6 takeoff runs I felt comfortable keeping it straight down the runway but did not want to risk flying it with an "unknown" run...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Well today was the Ascenders first trip to the flying field. All I planned on doing was some high speed taxies down the runway to get the feel of the nose steering. As it turned out things went as planned, it seems to track straight as an arrow and with just a very short full power run it...

If you like models of something different, how about this?

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Say what you will about Zinger, I have one model that loves a Zinger 20 X 8 prop. I have tried 5 other brands and my Lublin's rate of climb really suffers with anything other than a Zinger. Maybe it's because it flies so slow? It's 23lbs, spans 132", and is powered by a Saito FG36, Just saying.....

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Hi Jeff, I decided to run a normal prop instead of a pusher, this will give me a bunch more prop choices if this silly thing flies. Thats the cool thing about electric as you know, I can make it turn either way. I am going to do the test flight with the Zinger only because I have one, once...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Hey Abe, I bought a "high end" charger just for this thing, the problem is me figuring out how to use it:frown:

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Well I just got back from the hobby shop and the TRC club meeting. While at the hobby shop I had them check the programming on my speed controller for everything, so now thats all correct. I also bought the little do-dad that Jetpainter suggested to check the condition of the cells. I also...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

I need to see if the charger that I bought will tell me the condition of the cells. I guess this might explain why one of my packs never shows a full charge no matter how long I let it charge.

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

That is cool! It's like a gas gauge for your battery pack. I never knew such a thing existed for electric stuff, when I visit the hobby shop this Thursday I'll be sure and see if I can pick one up. Thanks for the good info, as usual this forum is a great way to connect with modelers who have a...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Sure thing, I have 2 of the Pulse 6S 5000ma LiPo's in series (65C rating), the motor is a Rim Fire 65cc out runner, and the speed controller is a Castle Phoenix Edge HVf 160. I have the Venom Pro Quad charger that will charge 4 packs at the same time. One of my packs never did take a full...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Well as usual I am disappointed with this electric crap. Today Brenda and I did 4 very short full power runs, we got 6390 RPM with a Zinger 22 X 8 which is good. Then we went for a long (only 4 minutes) ground run. At 3:50 the thing shut it's self down, I guess due to low voltage? So as of now...

    Source for scale drawings

Hi Bart, Have you tried Bob Banka's scale drawings? He just recently sold his company but the new owners are keeping on with the company. I have used his source since the 80's for doing some of the scale stuff that have designed and built. Best of luck with your Cap project, Larry B

    Official IMAC 2017 Knowns

Thanks Tom, I see the basic still has that dumb 360 turn that I can never make look pretty! I'll be stuck in basic until the year that the 360 is removed from the routine.

    Hello from Dunn NC

Welcome to GSN, it's a fantastic site and best of all its easy to post photos! Do you fly with the Fayetteville club? I have been down in that area for several fun fly events. Larry B

Show off Warbird photos...you know you have one!

How about this for getting down low, this was actually taken at a scale fun-fly in Charlotte when the electric retracts failed to come down on my 1/4 scale 109E-4. You can see the R/H main gear stuck just short of the wheel well after the motor burned out. It was a beautiful gear-up landing with...
