    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Lock nuts are on the engine mounting bolts so I don't foresee removing the engine anymore. I got the mount for the choke bellcrank glued and the ignition module and regulator mounted.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Got a little more done on the Edge today. I got the throttle pushrod done and finally glued on the carbon rod sleeves to the all-thread. I'll glue in the box that hold the bellcrank for the choke tomorrow.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

This will be a manual choke. It works well for me.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I tried going out the front and I didn't like it.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I have the choke pushrod almost set up. I need to get some more 4-40 nuts to help hold the carbon rod that will go over the 4-40 all thread, which will also have JB Weld. The box has enough space to get an open ended wrench in so I can remove the bolt in the bellcrank if needed.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Little bit of progress from last night. I got the throttle servo mount glued in and cut some pieces of lite ply for choke bellcrank. After that, I put the new servo case on my throttle servo.

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Got a little work done on the Edge tonight. I forgot that I had done stuff to the wheel pants and instead worked on the throttle servo mount. I used some 3/16" lite ply and used the top of an old servo (the one that went bad in the Slick actually) to get the dimensions for the hole and to see...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Well, I didn't get to the motor tonight but I did work on getting the wheel pants ready to mount. I had good luck with the system that 3DHS uses but I still prefer this method over anything. I use Wheel Pant mounts from SIG and I will use one on either side of the wheel pant. For the outside...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I've been having to deal with some stuff at work and really busy in general. This hobby is meant to be fun and it becomes work when you're not having fun or having to push yourself. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things but I had a project to work on for my job tonight. But I did...

Going to VP SEF: Any Reason to Not Buy Premix?

The issue is not mixing gas, the issue is the gas sitting around so I'm going to try SEF. The question at hand is to stick with Redline or use the oil in their Premix version.

Going to VP SEF: Any Reason to Not Buy Premix?

I had some problems with gas that sat for too long. Ultimately there's what your time is worth. Given my workload and the sparsity of good flying weather here, I'm going to SEF to see if I can minimize downtime and maximize flying time. I'm applying for a new job but until I get one, my...

SOLD! DA 60/25mm Drop Header/Medium ProFlow Can

I'm selling a DA 60 with about 5 gallons through it. I had the motor in my 3DHS 89" Slick. It would burble in the midrange so I added a nipple to the diaphragm side of the carb and ran a line to a modified pill bottle in the fuse and that seemed to fix that problem for me. Included is a blazing...

Going to VP SEF: Any Reason to Not Buy Premix?

It seems like lol! I lived in Fort Collins, CO which can be windy but we would fly March through October. Maybe not every weekend but often enough that gas never went bad.

Going to VP SEF: Any Reason to Not Buy Premix?

Well, for me it's a matter of convenience. The weather here is terrible and we only have about 3 months out of the year where the weather is consistently good enough to fly almost every weekend. Normally by this time of year, the winds would've settled down but they haven't. In a typical...

Going to VP SEF: Any Reason to Not Buy Premix?

I probably going to start using the SEF from VP. They sell 4 Cycle and then 2 premixed version. The oil in the premix is JASO FD so is there any reason why I should continue buying Redline (JASO FC) and mix it in with the 4 Cycle instead of just using what's in the 40:1 or 50:1? I realize...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Little bit of progress over the day getting the Edge together. I wanted to block off part of the pipe tunnel for the can. Using some triangle stock and a piece of balsa, I made an air dam for it. I used wood glue to make sure I have bonds that last. To finish it off, I coated all of the new...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

Unfortunately I've been really busy at work but somehow managed to get the aileron linkages set up and I just need to double check the lengths of the turnbuckles. Tonight, I worked on getting the can mounts installed but keep them removable. I cut down the remaining pieces of plywood from the...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I didn't get as much done this weekend as I had hoped, but I managed to get the right elevator linkage set up and the pull-pull cable. On the right elevator, I haven't centered the servo because I will do that in the radio programming. For the pull-pull, I am using a Kevlar cable from Don's...

    Build: EF 88" Edge 540T

I finished getting the old hinges out yesterday and put in the new hinges. To finish removing the old hinges, I melt them down using a cheap "hobby iron" from Harbor Freight. I use a ball of 4-6 paper towels to wipe off the tip of the iron to get rid of the excess plastic. Once done, I then...
