    Gas engine backfire

Yeah, I know :). I don't think I was. I usually give it a pretty decent flip. I'm starting to think that I caused it by not running the engine dry after the last flight. I turned on the choke and may have loaded up the carb. I'll check the hall sensor.

    Gas engine backfire

OK guys - I pulled the thrust washer off and the woodruff key was in place and undamaged. So if a change in timing didn't cause it and the hall sensor didn't move, what else could it have been? Also, I made 3 flights after it backfired so hard.

You are so right! You know, its kind of ironic that you said that. Never in my 30+ years of modeling has she done that until recently. Now, I can almost expect some kind of treat while I'm out there. Even with the broken foot, she hobbled out there last weekend just to ask me if I needed...

    Scale Plans built P-51

Well, my 82 year old mother is in the hospital with pneumonia, and my wife fell and broke her foot right after having surgery. Guess what I have not been doing?!?! Right - I am not spending any time in the shop. I value my life way too much for that. Good news is, everyone is better...

    Gas engine backfire

I believe you're exactly right. It's too bad. The engine is made in the USA, good product, strong running, high quality. Could easily compete with any engine on the market. But, probably won't ever happen. Todd had a 60 twin in the works. Haven't heard anything about that for a long time.

    Gas engine backfire

I have heard the same thing. Customer service is the number one thing that kept them from becoming a true force in the 30cc engine market. I readily admit that there are far more stories about terrible service than there are good ones. BUT, my experience has been the absolute opposite. I...

    Gas engine backfire

I have a chicken stick that Todd Syssa gave me when I bought my 4th engine from him. I've never used it. Guess I may start. I know what you mean about keeping your fingers flat against the front of the prop and not grabbing it. That's how I missed getting hit the first time. I've gotten so...

    Gas engine backfire

Woodruff key?!?! I never would have thought of that. I had just changed the prop. I bet I let it fall out somehow and didn't notice it. I'll check that first thing when I get home.

    Gas engine backfire

I've never had this happen before, so I'm a little confused. I was starting my Syssa 30cc for the first run of the day. It backfired - sounded like a firecracker, not like the ususal trying to start sound. The energy was great enough to loosen the prop nut. Took the spinner off, reset the...

    Frank Bowman Rings

I've put Bowman rings in every gas engine I have. My thread on the DLE 85 has my way of installing the rings. I've never broken one putting them in this way. The phone number and email address above should work just fine. I always just email Frank and tell him what I want. He sends me a...

Ok, now I have several hours experience with MDF in modeling. I hope no one went out and bought any to use on your next project. I built the hold down plates like I said I was going to. When I trial fit the cowling, they were off by an 1/8th. That's way too much. I was wondering how I was...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I haven't had a lot of time to work on the Mustang the last couple of days, but this morning after some much needed yard work I decided to do a little experiment. I came into possession of some scrap 1/4inch MDF. For those of you unfamiliar with that product, MDF stands for medium density...

Not yet. If all goes well, I'm going to run mine this weekend. I'll post my numbers when I get it done.

The problem with the Robart electric retracts is the cost. $750 does not include wheels. But it's cheaper than the Sierra if you were to convert them to electric. That's more than the engine and what I have in the plane so far. Oh, well. I'm going to buy them over a couple of months. Tail...

    Scale Plans built P-51

Yes. A plane like this has to have retracts. I've talked to the guy that drew the plans. Sierra and robart make a set that will work. I'm going to use the robart 154E for the main gear and I think the number is 160E for the tail gear. These are electric. I've got a small set in a p-40 and...

Well, stink!! When I got home from work and celebrating my little girl'so 35th birthday, I went out to the shop to admire my handiwork. How can this be?? It's got a 3/4 inch twist in it. I think that when I started, I had the right idea. Start in the middle and work putting on pieces, first...

    Scale Plans built P-51

I went home for lunch and couldn't resist going out to the shop for a few minutes. I had been thinking about cutting the cowl loose and couldn't figure out what else I needed to do before I did. So, I grabbed my flexible flush cut saw and started sawing. 5 minutes later, I had the cowl in...
