Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

How about a little teaser fellas? This is only two coats with one to go. That is a scrap of Ultracoat Apple Green next to the canopy. Spot on match! The process continues. Will have photos for y'all in a bit.

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

Thank you Doug. I'm glad you chimed in. I was kind of hoping that you would. I'm very glad that you mentioned what you did. I remember talking to a gal had a paint store one time and she suggested using a non ammonia glass cleaner before painting or clear coating. She mentioned that it will take...

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

I have a question for all you expert painters. Obviously I had to handle the cowl halves to mask and paint different colors. I am afraid of any residual oils and such from touching them. Does anyone have a suggestion to make sure I've left no remains from handling the parts? I don't want to...

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

Thank you Mike. It really is coming together well. The paint looks so good it's almost as if someone other than me did the painting. LOL. The paint should "shine" right up and match the covering perfectly once it is clear coated.

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

We're back in black... or, what is black and white and green all over? Virtually, the paint just continues to flow quite nicely. Black is now done. (Obviously) I need to wait until tomorrow to clear all the painted parts. Sheesh... this all happened quite quickly. Definately going...

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

So I discovered a new awesome reason I like this paint. It is incredibly forgiving. Stupid in a hurry me almost totally blew it. It went something like this. After masking the cowl halves I wanted to make darn certain I left no body oil thru fingerprints. I grab my handy dandy alcohol and...

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

As promised, here are a couple of photos of what I've got done recently. I have to say I'm very impressed with the white paint this time versus when I did my Jtec Pitts. The white paint sprayed out and laid up just as nicely as the green or any other color I have used so far. As it stands, the...

Pilot 40% 330 Recover and Build

Whoo hoo!! Paint showed up a day early. Shot the white and will let it cure for a couple of hours. I'll unmask the cowl halves and put them on the 330 to check my paint line alignment. Then, back to masking tomorrow and we'll shoot either black or finish the green. Just not sure yet. Nice to...

Discussion The I’m going out flying thread 2018

It is always nice to go out and fly with good friends. Not so sure I would enjoy the thud! I try very hard to stay away from those. LOL. It was an absolutely picture perfect day here in the Boise Valley. Light winds 0 to 3 mile per hour. Very low humidity and the temperature was around 70 to 75...

You know I was kidding right? Lol... I wouldn't touch the bound radio to that plane for 25,000 dollars. Oh I'll maiden anything with wings. But a work of art is a whole different kind of "uh, not me"! Lol. Will anxiously be awaiting the maiden video.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I was surprised at the cost most shops wanted to do what I did. It cost me 61.00 for the o.e.m. GM cover and no shipping. Every upholstery shop I talked to wanted in the neighborhood of 300 to 380 dollars. Well that is just plain highway robbery if you ask me. I can only imagine what they would...

I am so sorry I have not kept up to speed. I see lots of progress. You know... I may not be rated top in the world. But I'm a pretty darn good pilot. Want me to maiden it? You know I'd get on the first plane over to get my hands on that beauty. Love it. Keep us posted please.

Wow... you guys have been busy. I haven't been to this little shop for a while. I get sidetracked and all y'all work on schtuff. Cool... I actually did do something not airplane related. Well, not totally related. Maybe the airplane hauler. Lol. A few years and a few miles have started to show...
