The I'm going out flying thread 2016

The first rule was all new trainee pilots had to be taught by a club instructor. They also tried to come up with something to keep pilots from flying to "advanced" an aircraft before "They" thought you were ready, because I went from a trainer to a ballistic style pattern ship called a Speeda...

    Woo Hoo! No FAA intrusion.....maybe

Time will tell, but it is sounding better than some of the things we heard a few months ago.

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

He and I have been flying each other airplanes since we started flying in 85. As a matter of fact he taught my how to fly after he had only been flying two weeks. The old guys in the club really like that one. We were the cause of several new rules in that club. :big-grin: There has been many...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Somebody needs to it, hasn't flown in over a year. That airplane is responsible for getting me back into flying after about a 10 year break. He had me do some touch-up work on it over the 4th of July weekend in 2011. After working on it and looking at it for that weekend I was hooked again. I...

    GP123 header help

They make an adapter to use DA120 headers, but on my GP61 I made an aluminum plate to make a DA50 header work.

Scale 25% Krier Kraft build, a tribute to grampa.

I haven't had a bipe since a Super Aeromaster back in the 80's. One day I'd love to scratch build a Culp Special.

I've never seen the parting board made into it's own table. Cool idea!

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

I spent several hours at the field this morning. It was warm and humid, but not too bad. I flew my 30% Pilot Edge. I think I'm finally making some progress with my rolling harriers. I still have a long way to go to feel like I'm any good at them, but progress is good! My flying buddy Tony...

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Thanks! The Duratec primer looks interesting. I use a similar product at work, but it looks like the Duratec is about half the price!

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

I've been in the body shop business for 37 years so I've sanded my share of body filler, but it looks like you've sanded your share as well.;)

    Turbines are cool...

You must have been bored today and reading through old threads.;) Turbines are cool, but way out of my price range. I built and repaired quite a few of them for others years back before they were mostly ARF's. There is a lot of cool stuff out there now.

Larry, does the filler eat the blue foam at all?

    Scale Curtiss XP-55 Ascender

Very cool! And yes some how to's on fiberglass layup techniques would be great some time. When I was home sick for a few days a few years ago I watched a lot of videos on the subject from a guy building scratch built jets. Very interesting. Some day I would love to build a good sized glass...

1988 TOC Tournament of Champions Walk Through the Pits

Back before there was an XFC or a Shootout there was the TOC. I found this video by accident today and thought I'd post it to show just how far things have come. It's a walk through the pits of the Las Vegas Tournament of Champions 1988. These guys would have killed for the power we have today...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I made it to the workshop last night, but not to work on airplanes. A friend has been having problems making some Digital Command Control decoders work in some HO locomotives. If your not familiar with DCC it's basically remote control for model trains with the signal going through the rails...

    Scale NAT's 2016 anybody?

Very cool airplane Larry, can you tell us something about it? I went to the Scale Masters when it was in St. Louis many, many years ago. The weather was lousy, but there were some awesome airplanes!

    Scale Where's the builds?

While there certainly is more interest here for 3D related things, there are still a lot of people that enjoy scale builds. The 50% Dalotel 165 build thread has over 32000 views! My own thread on a scratch built self designed Golden Age racer has over 14000. So the interest is out there. In...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I was in a workshop last night, just not mine. My friends and I were back at inventorying all the HO model railroad stuff we inherited when a friend passed. Trying to get the three of us together has been a challenge, but we are up to 800 pieces in the inventory now. 268 locomotives, 103...

    Scale Where's the builds?

As a builder, I can say it doesn't make any difference to me one way or another. I can pick through them myself if need be, but having them separated would make it easier. My worry is the same as Bart's (at least I think), will separating them make less people go through the builds, and possibly...
