Discussion Long term planning: Getting into gas

Anyone out there who can help me with a parts list for getting into gassers? Anything from regulators and power distribution stuff to gas cans and pumps!

    3DHS 70" Velox

Yeah, I think it's between this and the 71" Slick for my gasser build. Vrooom, vroooom! :)

    3DHS 70" Velox

I'm looking at the Velox as a possible airframe for my planned quarter scale gasser build. Would you say the 20cc is more than enough and there's no need to go completely insane with a 30cc? I'm still working on my basic 3D skills, so I don't need anything super extreme.

    48" EPP Yak

I've had the same problem occasionally with some motor/ESC combinations. The standard answer is to experiment with the timing. Another thing I had happen to me was that the shaft was rubbing slightly against some wood. When the motor spun up, the ESC must have been confused when it felt...

    Cars and planes

I saw I guy at the club today who successfully put a 50cc Yak in his compact Suzuki. I think it was this plane: http://www.generalhobby.com/goldwing-50cc-aerobatic-airplane-version-p-257.html Extremely impressive!

Custom piston ring? Really? It makes that much of a difference? Better compression, or something else?

A good starter or 2nd 3D plane suggestion

I'm not sure I'm qualified to give advice, but I will, anyway. Because I can! :) You need two things: 1) An EPP foamie 3D trainer. You absolutely need this, since you either won't dare trying new tricks on your balsa plane or you'll break them while trying. Twisted Hobbys are great (I...

    Cars and planes

Let's discuss what planes fit in what cars. I have a Volvo S60 T5 and I can handily fit three 50"-class planes in it with the back seat down. I'm thinking of moving into the 70" class and I have high hopes I can fit them in the car if I fold the front passenger seat. I may have to take the LG...

    Knife Edge tips.

Trim your plane and potentially add mixes to keep it as stable and free of coupling as possible. I recently found that this is the difference between flying knife edges in white-knuckled horror and effortlessly flying around with your plane in a knife edge. It takes some time and some effort...

    Help! My hovering sucks.. help!

Hey Joe! Just checking in with some feedback. I took a break from work for a few minutes and flew a foamie in the backyard and tried to think about what you said and it made a huge difference. Here's the thing: When the plane was about to, for example, fall backwards toward the canopy, as a...

    Dual rates

Hi Joe! To what extent do you use dual rates (or however many rates you have on your radio)? I used it in the beginning and kept switching depending on what I was trying to do, but found it utterly confusing. Now I just have full 3D rates all the time and a boatload of expo. What do you...

Discussion Long term planning: Getting into gas

The reason I'm thinking 30CC is more a transportation issue than a cost issue. A 71" Slick, for example, I can probably find a way to get into my car, for those weekends my wife insists she needs the family SUV. A 50CC plane, no so much... Noise it not that much of an issue at any of my two...

    Help! My hovering sucks.. help!

Thanks! I've gotten to the point where I can hold a stable hover if I climb ever so slowly, but as soon as I try to stay stationary, it sometimes starts to wobble. Most of the time, the plane falls over towards the canopy and I have to pull out. I think my problem is finding the sweet spot on...

    New Here? Introduce yourself!

Didn't know there was a PA event. Where? All depends on when wifey grants me a probational release. :) I ran out of batteries when there where another three planes in the air, but at least you and I earned the bragging rights of having defeated Joe and Arron (I think) at something RC-related. :)

    Valuehobby Saber X 51

To be honest, I agree with Jet. My Sabre flies so great on my current setup that I have very little incentive to invest more money in the power system. I'll save my pennies for my 2013 gasser project instead. :)

Discussion Long term planning: Getting into gas

I'm budgeting somewhere between $1000-$1500, probably closer to $1500 for this and I don't see any way I can get away with it cheaper if I went electric. At least not if I want to run quality components. I don't have the kind of batteries this type of plane takes, and that alone is a $300-500...
