    Glassing and Painting techniques

I always did the leading edges similar to how you do Monocote. Do the bottom first, wrapping around the leading edge a bit. Let that cure, then sand it, being very careful not to hurt the balsa on top where the wrap around stops. You really don't need to make that perfectly smooth at this point...

The hairspray was sprayed on the wood first and used to try and keep the resin from soaking into the wood and save a little weight.

Thanks guys, Terry is who I want to be when I grow up. Since I'm already older than him and have yet to grow up that may be a problem. ;)

For some reason the PDF I uploaded wont open on my phone or Kindle so I turned the file into a picture so it's usable.

Congrats guys, you are really doing a great job!

    Glassing and Painting techniques

Over the last two weeks I have done a series of test panels to see what I could do to get the lightest, yet still stable surface for painting using glass cloth and epoxy resin. I tried several different ways of glassing, filling and priming. My results may differ from others, but I wanted to...

I installed the cowl ring tonight. First I sanded the inside of the cowl and cleaned it with alcohol. Then I tacked it in with CA and glued it in with Goop. I used a syringe to lay a bead of Goop around the edges, a tip I stole from Terry.

I have a set of carbon fiber wheel pants. They do look cool and they're light, but not as tough as I would have thought.

I have two different thoughts about the pilot. If I use a smaller pilot it makes the airplane look bigger, but if I use a big pilot it looks like the pilot is wearing a very over powered airplane which I like. And since this is supposed to look like a vintage racer I like the idea of just the...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

It's been about a week since I posted on the build here. I've been making some test panels and posting in the painting thread, but I have also been working on a cowl ring. This cowl has open cowl vents on the top and sides and I didn't want a flush mount solid ring that you could see from behind...

What foil covering are you using? I built the wings on the airplane below as a repair job for a friend about 15 years ago. Back then we were using Presto film. It went down pretty well, but the surface needed to be smooth as glass beforehand or it would show through the covering. I want to do a...
