    Glassing and Painting techniques

Several things I've read say to use Deft Sanding Sealer first to prevent warpage from the water base product. I didn't make it out today to pick any of it up. Instead I had a three hour lunch with the guy I go flying with. I guess there are worse ways to blow your day than talking airplanes and...

I also want to try the Minwax water based polyurethane instead of resin. A lot of people say it's lighter. I have my doubts, but I want to test it and make sure. Any one here used it before?

I've never needed to use the blotting technique with Zpoxy finishing resin, but I do go over it several times with my squeegee to remove any excess and clean the edge of the squeegee on the rim of the cup. If you part has glossy sopts after the first coat, you left too much on. Light weight...

Yes, I'll paint some of them this week and post the results.

I sanded and weighed the new 24 square inch test panels I made last night with .5 ounce glass cloth and one coat of Z-Poxy finishing resin. I applied hairspray to some of the panels and didn't really see much difference in the weights. There was only 0.2 grams difference in weight gain between...

Last night I started on several more test panels. This time with lightweight glass cloth. I weighed them carefully with a paint scale before glassing and used hair spray on some. This time I should be able to tell if the hair spray panels use less resin of not. I'll sand and weigh them tonight...

What are you going to build in 2015?

You and me both brother. I used to support my car and airplane habit by buying and selling muscle cars. And I guess the Nova/ChevyII Super Sport also fits into what I'm going to build in 2015. Then it can sit in the guys garage and never, ever be driven. Just like the rest of the cars in his...

What are you going to build in 2015?

I've looked at the link for the 2.2 meter Challenger II so many times in the last year I'm surprised I haven't worn it out.

What are you going to build in 2015?

I've always thought that scheme is awesome. That's a lot of black to bake on a sunny day at the field, but man it's cooool!

Nason has a lot of good, relatively inexpensive products. Another plus is availability since a lot of O'reilly auto parts stores carry it or can get it.

They are 24 sq". They were done with the intention of testing fillers and primers and number of resin coats to see what combination yields the lightest, yet smooth and stable painting surface. The weight per square inch of these panels is higher than it would be on an airplane because I used...

What are you going to build in 2015?

This hobby needs a 100cc kit of the Model 12.

That nasty four letter word "Work" has been getting in the way, but I did manage to prime a few of the test panels I've been working on. Some of them I sprayed with two coats of Nason 421-19 2K urethane primer with Nason 483-87 activator. I reduced the activated primer by about 10% with Nason...

What are you going to build in 2015?

The guy that owns it would be rather peeved. 68 Super Sport 375 horse 396 stick all numbers matching.

Got this here engine. now what?

You could do the 107" one. It would be an animal with a GP 61.

What are you going to build in 2015?

I plan on finishing my scratch build project I've been working on for over a year (though I really didn't touch it during flying season) and I have two classic pattern airplanes to do, a Tiporare 750 and a Dr. Jekyll. But as slow as I am, who knows what will happen.

I've had the inside of an air hose come apart and put crap in the air, so I run the DeVilbiss filter at the gun as well as a RTI wall mounted unit.

Since Terry brought up dryer's let me add something. A dryer/filter should be a minimum of 25' away from your compressor. The reason behind that is the temperature differential between the air coming out of the compressor and the rooms temperature can cause condensation in the air line. You want...
