The I'm going out flying thread 2016

You ain't just whistlin' Dixie. I bought a new flight simulator just so I can hone my skills and get better at some of the things I actually trust myself doing. Oh yeah....on the flight sim. Ha!!! I am awesome. Draggin' wingtips on the grass the full length of the field just like Herve. Tail...

Switching a 31 Club Pylon Racer to E Power

Well I used @cbarnes0061; idea of naca ducts and built one for the front of my airplane. I also cut some slots in the bottom hatch to let the air out. I still need to do some sanding and painting, but you get the idea. The motor is on the way back from Innov8tive Designs and should be here soon...

    Cool old school planes??

Awesome, I hope you do a build thread!!      The S-12 is one of my favorites, but is a little over-cooked in the RC market, would be neat if someone did an older Pitts.     The Jtec kits look really good when done. EMHW does kits of the Pitts S1-S in two sizes. I go to their webpage and drool...

    A123 charge testing

Do you set the battery chemistry type or does it recognize it ? I have a similar tester with a fuel gauge and it defaults to LiPo's so you have to set it to others. I find it's not very reliable for LiFe or A123 style batteries. I use a 2100mah LiFe pack in my 550 helicopter and before the...

    Cool old school planes??

Extra 230 and a Cosmic Wind. The 230 was the first gasser I ever flew, and the Cosmic Wind was my favorite airplane of all of the ones I built back in the day.

I'm sure it will get better. Right now I'm being flooded with email notifications of new thread posts and no one can seem to tell me how to turn if off. Plus the new auto correct sucks. And evidently you can't edit a post once someone replies to it.

Switching a 31 Club Pylon Racer to E Power

That's a great idea. I'll have to do some thinking. I did figure out some basic ideas for mounting the battery and ESC that I think should work well. I'll post some pics when I get some things going.

Switching a 31 Club Pylon Racer to E Power

Thanks! I've weighed all the old components, and if the listed weights for the new ones are correct the airplane should lose about 2 ounces if I can get the balance right without adding any weight. My two biggest concerns at this point are how to secure the battery and how to get...

    3D Viper-ST 100-120cc scratch build......it continues!

It sounds like the weather in Rolla is going to be great. It's about 2 hours from me or so, but unfortunately I can't go, so have fun for me. Several members of my club are going, One of them, Ryan Mowery has won the 3D Throw Down there a couple of times and I love to see what he comes up with...

Switching a 31 Club Pylon Racer to E Power

Back in the late 90's the club I used to belong to held pylon races for .10 size airplanes. The only rule was you had to run a stock O.S. .10FP with the stock muffler. The racing was a blast and I still have my scratch built plane I flew back then, but I don't like the idea of glow so I think...

    Flight/Maintenance Log

I have a check list on my phone that I go over right before I get in the truck to leave for the field, to make sure I don't forget things like fuel or the wings or the transmitter. Little things like that. I started that after getting about 20 minutes from home and realizing I forgot my fuel.

    Over-Thick Control Surfaces

Boy that first picture really scales that airplane. I haven't been up close to one in years and I'd forgotten just how small they are.
