    GP 88 Evo thread

I finaly started the engine and after the usual problem getting a Walbro carb that has been dry for 2 years to pump fuel, it started. My first impression is WOW. So smooth for a big single and running strong. Using 93 octane ethonal free with the quality fully synthetic oil of my choice...

I bought a GP 88 EVO a couple of years ago from Limmitless Aero when Kole was still around. My son was given a crashed 33% SD Yak54 a few years ago and he asked me if I could fix it for him. As any father would answer, I told him "I can do anything". :) The thread on the plane is here in the build section as "Rebirth of a Yak" This is about the engine I got for his plane and for any...

    3D Rebirth of a Yak

On to the cowl. The only uncut cowl I could find was the wrong color scheme and had evidently been kicked around some. Repaired broken sections with carbon fiber tape on the inside for strength and lightweight body filling compound. Also strengthened the round front with carbon fiber tow...

Masked and painted the inside to make it look better and make the repairs less noticeable. Black auto primer then a thin coat of multi color texture.

Wings had some broken ribs so I cut some new ones and clamped and glued again. Then test fit the wings to make sure everything was going to fit. Starting to look like an airplane again. :)

    3D Rebirth of a Yak

Added carbon fiber rod x bracing, pinned the firewall with small carbon fiber rods in front of the carbon fiber cloth layer and laminated Kevlar fiber tape to engine box. This should be strong enough.

Stronger, straighter and better is the goal. It amazes me that when ARF parts are no longer available airframes get discarded.
