Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

The sanding has started hopefully it does not take to long. I have found over years that sand down to 600 is just a wast of time. Did an experiment once sanded one piece down to 600 and the second down to 220 and could not tel the difference. Maybe this time I am going to go down to 150 and see how it looks. Have any of you gentlemen any advice or commitments.
One thing I did try once is spray the wing hair spray and then sanded it down to 220. If gets rid of the tiny fuzz of the wood, but it did not cover any different or better. One thing with the hair spray you could lift and reposition it.

Thanks for that snoop, I also sand down to 600 and always wondered if it really made a difference. My good flying friend always laughed at me for doing that. He built beautiful scale planes and would sand to 150. I also use the hairspray, I do find it helps.

Still sanding it is going quicker than I thought. Also been doing a little bit of sketching on the side to see what I may end up with.
I think the top and bottom will be as shown but the fuselage will most likely be the bottom one. maybe?

I find it hardens the balsa in a slight way. Not as many iron dents.

Agree that seems to toughen up the surface, the only thing that I did not like is once you sprayed all the surfaces become rough again. Then you had to sand the hole plane down again, and if you missed a spot it would really show. It is hard to sand a spot when in the middle of covering. I think in some areas it would be useful but I have only done it twice. Skipped it on last few planes I have done.

I like the design on these two, because it’s simple and elegant. Not sure which of your colors I would use where though.

Love the green one but black covering on a rc plane I will really try to avoid. Looks great but it just wrinkle for ever you just cannot win. The red looks good to.

Agree. Was trying to envision your orange, blue and white in this scheme, but wouldn’t know if orange or blue would look better as the top color.

That’s exactly why I suck at covering planes I never know which colour looks good with another, that’s why my daughters often look at me shake their heads and walk away, and say dad you need help. That is why I stick, with white, blue and orange. At lest the colours look good together.

I used hair spray with Monokote and I think it works better, I continue to use it. I think Ultrakote sticks better without the spray but I don't like it. I'll use Monokote or Hobby King film before i'll use Ultrakote. Hobby King film is nice and cheap, like $13 for 5 meters.
