I'm in the process of trying to gather equipment together for my preordered 103. I have a spectrum power safe rx is it ok to y harness the aileron servos? Or should I go with a smart fly distribution board? My rx is a dx8.

You should not y-harness the ailerons. (by the way, you can only y-harness the servos if you program them to work together perfectly...even then, you shouldn't power both servos from only one channel on your Rx...that will be bad news and you'll starving your servos and Rx for power)

Welcome to learning about ganged aileron servos. It'll be fun and you'll learn a lot!

Check out Cody's awesome thread about setting up ganged servos:

When you're done reading Cody's awesome article (great assist moose) check out TailDraggerRC's dual servo wing extensions. They're what I'm using in the 104 I'm building:

I use power safe RX's in 103's and 104's....work great...I use TaildraggerRC wiring in my wings and run the servos on their own channels.....or I've also built my own special "y-harnesses" for this application....the key is that you have to provide one RX power plug to every servo....but you can just splice the signal wires together so they work from one channel's signal...then program the servos to work properly ganged together.

Look back through the pics in this thread or the 104 thread....once about 2 years ago I made a crayon sketch of my homemade wiring harnesses.

You could take some TaildraggerRC harnesses and splice the signal wires together...but power from two ports in the RX.

When first getting into dual servo or triple servo setups, there is a learning curve....we all had these questions at one point....the only two important ideas are...

1) plenty of current carrying capacity to all servos without bottle necking down through less than one connector per servo.

2) servos must work together with good mechanical geometry and should be electronically driven together with equal end points and enters so they don't fight.

PM if you want a lot more help....I'm glad to help on it.

Thanks for your help

1 simple question for now. I can use a dx8 and a power safe rx and make a good setup? I don't want something all rigged up :)
