150-200cc Extra 300SP

Yes all 6 of the. Metal spinner backing plate to. I knew I should have rechecked the torque the night before as I try to stay in that habit but got lazy. Never had one come off before. So a mej spinner and 29x12x3 prop is lost forever in the woods. A lot of cost for not doing a periodic torque check on the prop.

Well a lot has happened since the first prop departed. I recieved a new prop and spinner. Torqued it several times. The night before and prior to the first flight. I flew the plane for 5to 6 minutes and landed. Checked prop torque. Actually added 5lbin for heat expansion. 10 minutes into that flight I heard the dreadful noise again. Killed the engine a d dead sticked in. Spinner cone gone and prop was loose with 2 broken bolts. Called Tony at DA because I believe something is wrong wit the engine. The front hub is scorching hot to the touch. Now I'm not happy with loosing $650.00 between 2 props and spinners, and $150.00 for a new cowl. For the time being I bolted up my GP176evo. Flown all day yesterday and most of today without a single issue. I also noticed that the front hub was cool to the touch after each flight. So this confirms to me something is wrong with my new 170. I made a cg change last night more aft. This plane feels really locked in now for me. I'm getting alot of compliments at the club on this plane and how it flys.

Jim, aluminum spinner with aluminum back plate?
Mej spinner was the first one. Aluminum back plate and carbon fiber cone. That spinner was a few years old along with the prop as I used it on my H9 Sukhoi with a different DA170. The second one was a no limits spinner. Aluminum back plate with fiber cone. I know to definitely not use a carbon fiber back plate. That is almost a guaranteed eject-o-prop situation. The one that is on there now with the GP engine is also a No Limits.

I could only guess then as to what would cause the problem. Hope you get it sorted out. Glad that your airplane is okay and the Evo is running good.

Here's a couple of pics of what I've done to the tail of my extra and also part of the new color scheme. Yes it was a beautiful model as is but I just had to add some of my own touches to it. I also have most of the fuselage ready, I just need to finish the wings.

here it is on it's gear, I also made a quick release hatch instead of bolting it down everyday. I did this to my 50cc edge and it worked really well. Hoping the same here.

Here's the wingtip and what I'm building there. Just adding some small scale touches to the wings.

Thank you for sharing the photos.
I am not sure how much flight characteristics these mods might change, but it will no longer be a 300SP: the SP has no counterbalance on elevators or ailerons.
