78'' Extra

Hone, what engine did you go with (list track!)? Is that the OS? Header looks great. I have the 30 pipe and am getting tired of waiting for DA. The OS is my backup but the reverse starting is my hurdle! I don't have an don't want to get a starter. "Fuel flip an go" was my motivation to go gas. The OS has everything else. I'll give it this month. I'm following you close since we may have identical setups. Good luck and please continue to post progress. Thanks.

I spoke to owner of DA a few days ago. They're very close on the DA35.... Just a few more tweaks to go, they really are working hard to make it perfect. If you had your heart set on one, I'd give them a little more time... You'll have a better engine in the end :)

Thanks Gary. I figured there would be some intel coming out of SEFF an other events. I'm having a ball burin up lipos on the 60 and the other 6-8 planes I bring to the field so I have some patience left for the DA.

They'll be at Joe Nall too, so if you're there you can get a personal update.

Just read back and saw that it is the GT33 with the new 35 pipe. Pls keep us posted. Thanks.
I'll definitely keep you updated. Once i get some spring clamps in the right size i'll be able to throw everything in the plane. Should be done by next weekend for sure. I was hoping to set it up tonight but the spring clamps i have aren't big enough.
How much was the header?

$70.00. It's REALLY nice, especially compared to the flex header i had originally. It is a little short though. I need at least 6 to 7'' between the header and pipe.

Oh and by the way my OS does start backwards quite often.

I bought one of these http://www.airopult.com/en/

It'll hold my plane from moving forward or backwards while starting.

Even with it's quirks, when the plane is flying the engine is reliable and super responsive. Very nice sound to it also.

I'm loving the Extra though. It flies sooo good. I fly mostly high speed stuff with it. Super locked in! Clean lines, snaps are great, and you can do big plane tumbles with it :) The 3D is great too, the plane is really floaty. I got a chance to 3D it on the runway today after everyone else left the club. It was so much fun to bring it in close. I love having a big(to me :) ) gas plane hovering and harrier rolling directly in front of me. Gets the adrenaline going.

Hopefully i can put a gallon through it this weekend.

That restraint is a good idea regardless of the quirks. What's up with the backwards starting? I'm going to give DA. Little more time but this definitely my backup plan.
I can't wait to get mine going. I have some vinyl from Santi and new CF gear and pants. I'm really enjoying the 60" EF extra for the same reasons you describe so the 78 will just be icing on the cake.
Keep the updates coming. Fly low!

I have never seen or even heard of an entire engine product line that starts backwards so frequently. This is consistent not only among the 33's but also the GT-60 as well (I don't know about the 22 yet, Matt always uses the electric starter on the 22). This ridiculous and is a safety related issue that OS really needs to address.

I agree Gary. For all the other great benefits and quality of his engine line it seems that they just brush this under the carpet and assume that we should accept it! Strange. Maybe since "we" all accept it and work around it justifies it for the manufacturer.
If it wasn't for that one issue I'd have one on my plane now.

I did all that testing on the 60 on Thursday and after the first start I hand flipped it every time and it started the correct way.

I have only had the 22 go backwards once, but I don't hand flip it too much and it has the least amount of time on it. It is going into the Velox this week I hope.

The new 33 has only been started with the starter so I have no idea on this motor. The old one has started backwards a bunch.

I will try to talk to Hobbico at the Nall about it as it is a very common issue on the 33.

My 4S Kavan starter setup will cost one about $100 with lipo and turns all my OS motors and also saves a bit of time in the whole process as hand flipping takes a little longer.

Since the stock exhaust is so restrictive, I wonder if putting it on the pipe will in itself solve the issue. hone1er will have to report on this. I ordered a jtec large wrap around for the 60 and I will try hand flipping once I get it. Also since I will have a few people to fly with tomorrow, maybe we will play with the new 33 and the 60 on the hand starts and see if there is some trick with throttle we can do.
