She's done and I can't wait to fly her. Just one small problem. I can't get it to start. Same as Hone1er. Will try again this evening with a 21" prop.

Did you try squirting a tiny bit of fuel into the cylinders, and spinning the prop with the choke opened? It might light off

Use a starter. My Kavan does a good job. One of my friends had to buy a Sullivan Megatron to start his EME-60

+1 on the starter.....I bought a cup that attaches to my drill . after the initial start up and run you can flip it by hand. The rings are just tight so you cant get a good throw by hand. That said eventually it will start by hand if you can out last it....lol

Maidened mine today! Couldn't have gone better. I borrowed a mega starter to fire it for the first time because my shoulder is still sore! LOL It ran flawlessly and I haven't touched the needles. Subsequent starts were 2-3 flips. I'm very impressed with both the engine and the airframe. Great day.

Just a side note. I did get it running hand flipping it in the back yard prior to taking it to the field. The 21" prop was the deal. It only took about 45 minutes with that prop, It was getting dark and a thunderstorm was rolling in. I told myself "One more try and that's it." It was trying to start and I really believe I didn't have the throttle opened enough after the choked "pop". Plug wire fell off towards the end because I didn't realize at the time they were twist and lock. Thank goodness someone over on FG clued me in before I flew the plane.

I did not realize they were twist and lock until after a couple of flights when one of the cylinders stopping firing!

Does anyone have the correct length standoffs for the VVRC 40 on the 78 EF Extra?

I had the cowl off today to tighten things after the first few flights and did some measuring. 3/8" standoffs should give you about an 1/8" spinner to cowl gap. 5/16" stand offs if you are really OCD about it. I may just leave mine alone as my planes are flyin planes not showin planes.

Thanks, I have been collecting my parts for my 78" for the past few weeks (including the VVRC 40) and just this week they came back in stock so mine will be delivered tomorrow! Looks like I should have a busy weekend ahead. I had thought about mounting up the 40 and getting her started without the airframe but it looks like that won't be the case.

I thought about buying a cup for my 18v drill to get the party started rather than flipping for 45 minutes but the cup I ordered from tower seems a bit small. I might look around for a used starter that has the torque to turn thru the compression. Planning on a Vess 20B for break-in and may move to a 21A.

Anything I should watch-out for on the build / setup?

VVRC 40cc Twin
Tech Aero uIBEC
2x Hobbico 1800mAh LiFe 2s
JR R922X 9 DSMX Powersafe
3x Futaba S9352HV
2x HS-7955tg
Throttle HS-5665mh
16oz Fuji from WrongWayRC
Aztech arms and other bling (fuel dot, ball joints)
Vess 20B, Vess 21A
GraphtechRCshop CF landing gear (Heavy Duty)
MileHighRC 3.5" Spinner (I also have a 3" CF from another build in case weight up front is an issue)
