Scale Don Smith P-51 Mustang

Be careful what you which for. A fellow flyer had a plane not a war bird but just had to have a Four bladed propeller on his plane. Helped him with gear ratio and set up this was on a DA85 buy the time it was all done it looked great and the diameter was scale but when we were done playing with pitch so that the motor could spin it properly the result was not good in my book the plane flew quite slow. He could stand it on its tail and fly vertical but a slow speed. Tremendous pull but no speed.
My opinion if you would like to have a four bladed propeller make sure the motor can spin it with out a gear reduction. A mustang must be able to do high speed runs just of the deck.

Ok I have to say it if your are building a big ass mustang you have to able to come across the so fast that it gives a big adrenaline rush.
Oh trust and believe, the Kolm engines turn a 4 bladed prop no problem. And talk about speed? If I remember correctly, The Galloping ghost was clocked at over a hundred and sixty-seven miles per hour.
And that is without the proper reduction.

I located the maker of the prop deduction Drive Unit. His name is John Munson. He states that he makes them special order her application. I just hope this email is still valid and that he is still building them.

Here is another set up.
Very cool Prop, Airplane and Engine..................... Serious loss of points for the "Man Bun". :lol2:

Going by his pitch and RPM numbers, if it would unload say 1000 rpm in the air, that's maybe a 90+ mph airplane. Static pitch speed is around 75.

Here is my flying buddy Tony's Byron P-51 from back in the day with a belt reduction and a four blade. It was pretty awesome for 1987.

I agree with you that must be fastest rc mustang I have ever seen. To go 160 mph with a plane that size takes, some serious hp. I could be wrong but when they shot that video the plane had a 200 cc four cylinder in it and the owner of the plane and Kolm work together to see shat they could get out of the combination. Not sure about this but there was a lot of talk about the plane at one time and what was actually in the plane.

I telling you if I owned that plane it would be worn out in a day. I would gas and go all day and coming across the deck wide open and standing there with big smile on my face and just absolutely enjoying the sound, speed and looking at the plane.

Part of your information is correct. Originally the CARF Mustang had the 3 cylinder. Later came the four cylinder. This is one of the 4 cylinder models. Clocked at 190 mph.
If you go to YouTube and type in CARF Mustang Kolm engine, there are about nine million videos. Oh and also do a search on Kolm Galloping Ghost.
