got some more work done, yesterday and this morning. Have been working on the Cowl.

for the past few days, I have been working on the cowl locking mechanism, which, is genius! Tony @WoodisGood did a great job designing this.

basically, there are 4 "rails" with 4 slots in each rail. Then there are 8 tabs, 4 for the right side and 4 for the left side.
The upper cowl has the tabs, and once you engage them into the lower cowl tab holes, you press down and then push back, and it locks in place.

once this is glued into place, I then got some west epoxy resin, and fiberglass tape, and reinforced this.

here is a trial fitting of it to the fuselage....

as you can see, the bottom cowl got some areas reinforced with plywood/popsicle stick, and fiberglass tape and epoxy resin.

Here is the front view, with the top cowl mounted and engaged. The baffling is not complete yet....

next is to install 4 hard points on the bottom cowl and 2 on the top for fixing it to the fuselage.

IMG_1301.JPG

I also have to cut out a hole in the bottom of the cowl, and make a small lip in front of the hole, to help extract the hot air out.

Also, I will have to glue on a 1/2" thick balsa "wall" onto the top cowl, so that when it is installed, it block flow of air, and it is forced to push the air down, thru the baffle plate.

I cannot install the cowl to the fuselage yet, until I make the canopy/hatch, since I want it to be aligned.
