Is there an extension that goes on the stinger to extend through your 1” hole?

Not at the moment. The canister is a really "snug" fit through the pipe tunnel. I may end up cutting the stinger in order to align it with the area in which it will exit and use a silicone coupler to re attach.

I have a ready to fly weight of 27 lb. 4 oz. I have yet to fly the plane:( Been crazy busy with all the fall harvest activity for the last two months, so no flying time. @Terryscustom said the the fuselage isn't designed to take the power of a DA 120, and the performance with a DA 100L is really great. Go watch one of his videos of the plane with a DA 100L in it and see what you think.

It never really had anything to do with the viper could not handle "the power of the DA120". The DA is strong but the DLE120 is basically equal other than less vibes and a very few RPM less. Also the DA120 has straight plugs so they would stick out since the I did not make the cowl to accommodate it. DA100L, DLE111, DLE120 are all great engines for the Viper. The first Viper was designed as a 70cc pattern style plane and since the idea to make it the ST, the entire idea was to make an agile plane that could fly great without breaking the bank on the engine.

Interested to see how you deal with the stinger. Have run in this and did not come up with a good solution. Hope it is better than what I did. Having the stinger in the front is not the solution either the one that I was working on to get the correct header length the stinger was going through the landing gear so that was scraped and went back to small mufflers.

I did have to cut it......Elongated the exit so my fat fingers can get an extension on it. Good news is everything fits snug with no stress on the header.

Yep, that’s why rear exit sucks. And @Snoopy1 is reason why front exits suck. :devil-dance:

Nice job making it fit, Kelly!

Thanks Paul. I just finished up the engine install with the air filter system. Made a filter retainer plug from a gas bung stopper (fit the filter perfectly!) and attached it all to the carb with a piece I cut from a rubber flapper valve. The retainer plug base fits in the factory servo opening in the motor box.

Love that air filter what a great idea. That solves the problem of fuel spitting into the fuselage, like that. Can you give some information on the air filter and the transition piece from the carburetor to the filter. Have you run one before, did it have any effect on the output of the engine.

After everything is sorted out in the motor box I glued in the top cover plate. Sealed the motor box with some thinned down epoxy.
Made a start on the modifications to the cowl. Have to change it from a cowl that used to fit a DA85 to DA100L. Made a start on sealing all the holes in the bottom half. Laid a piece of Fiberglas cloth on the inside . And now I keep looking at it not knowing exactly how to do it. Do I just keep filling the holes from the outside with Fiberglas cloth or lay a piece of balsa in the holes and then glass over it. If someone has done this let me how you did it thanks. Also going to split the cowl in half after all the holes on bottom are sealed and fixed.

The filter is an Oregon 30-301 (for Techumse small engine) available at Walmart / Home Depot / Hardware etc..Couple of bucks.

To adapt it to the velocity stack I cut the rubber bulb from a Danco flapper and secured it to the filter with a nylon wire tie. I did trim the outer portion of the rubber cap on one end of the filter for a better fit to the flapper bulb.

I made the filter end plug/support from a gas fuel bung stopper.

I don't believe it will affect performance unless it becomes very dirty / fuel soaked. It should make the engine super quiet with the canister. I will give a video report once it is in operation.
