He believes that it was way tell heavy. I find that a little hard to believe especially since he had the three W 150 twin up front. That is no Feather by any stretch of the imagination.
I would not consider the engine too heavy or to light but rather question how and where it was checked for cg. Remember the 140 I put in the Laser was 4lbs heavier than normal installations but the cg said it was balanced after placement of electronics. After a few flights I feel it flies slightly tail heavy as noted by how the tail sets low on a level landing approach.

Yup to me three pedals is a must in a vehicle like that. Looks to be just an old buffing pad he has on his jack.
Yeah sticks are awesome, the bad part is Big Block, heavy car and a stick, adds up to broken parts if you drive it like it was made to. And whats the point of having it if you never work the right pedal.;) Automatics are way easier on parts, at least until you start using a Transbrake, those are pretty hard on equipment too.

And yes, that is an old buffing pad on the jack.

Yes, it is pretty much done! There is no retrieving that one. Ask for what happened, it went straight up the minute he left the ground and he was holding quite a bit of down elevator just to keep it flying. He believes that it was way tell heavy. I find that a little hard to believe especially since he had the three W 150 twin up front. That is no Feather by any stretch of the imagination. My belief is that it either had up thrust on the engine or the incidents on the stabs were not correct. However unfortunately we will never know. I just don't want this to happen to mine. So we need nose wait? Kolm it will be.
Wow that would drive me nuts. Standing in front of a plane of that magnitude and not knowing what just happened. And on top of that if you build another one the same thing can happen again. Man I would like know was I the idiot with bad flying skills or did I build a bad plane or the radio system fail. That would be hard to except.

Not in the shop but shop related. Built the outside bench for the outside power tools. Cleaned the tools then put a new blade on the band saw and new paper on the sander. Every task get's the shop closer to being fully functional.

It strange some times how small things show how different our lives are relative to were we live. I would never think of having my tools outside. It just be to cold and I would not be able to use them for 6 to 7 months a year. Looks good and boy would it be nice to do all my sanding outside that alone would save a lot cleanup time in the shop.

LOL! Yep, it is nice to do it all outside. The shop get's dusty enough with the minor cutting and trimming, can't imagine what it would be like with all those tool's inside.

The last time I flew Miss Moana I tweaked the gear a bit, so I pulled it off today to straighten it out. I obviously designed it to look good, not to be easy to work on. To get to the inner bolt on each leg you have to remove the tuned pipe. That means the engine has to come out.

It took quite awhile, but I got the legs off and bent back into shape. While I had them off I measured them so I can have a new set made of a little thicker material. TNT made me a really nice set of gear, but I think I'm asking way to much out of a 1/4" think piece of aluminum with the weight of the plane, and the length of the leg.

I like 'em "BIG"!

Doug, have you considered Carbon Fiber gear? Or does anyone out there even make after market CF landing gear these days? I know of a few that have come and gone. I was just thinking how much lighter they would be yet probably much more forgiving.
