I like 'em "BIG"!
First flying for 2017. I was needing some stick time in the worst way. My friend Aaron and I flew all afternoon. Put 6 good loooonnnng flights on the skis equipped trainer. I'm ashamed to admit I've been flying since '94 and until today had never done any flying from snow with skis. Had I known it would have been so much fun, I'd have not waited 23 years. Lol

It is a lot of fun I did it for many years when I first got into the hobby (1979). do not know why I stopped but will be flying in the snow again soon. Have to admit that on a nice day bright blue sky NO wind and 6 inches of snow is some of the best flying days in my life.

Andrew how are you liking the Hangar 9 Extra?

Performance wise, I really like the plane. It's aggressive but I can also run in low rates and get it to track well and fly a decent sequence. Quality wise, not so great. I'm running a 3w 110CS on K&S pipes. The engine is really smooth and I have a lot of power and I've flown the plane pretty hard but after 70 flights, too many bits just seem to be falling off the plane. Last time out the top of the engine box came off (with the ignition mounted to it). When I glued it back together, I found the plywood that makes up the sides was still strong but had delaminated. Some of the glue joints inside have failed and just require a good inspection and re gluing. Obviously I have gone over as many as I can and this stuff is typical of wooden airframes but it does seem particularly bad on this model. There are a few areas where the ply is delaminating (even the firewall) which is all easy enough to deal with but I suspect it's not built using the best wood or glue available.

I won the one they gave away here on GiantScaleNews. I haven't put it all together yet, but I've noticed a lot of QC issues as well. Mainly I have a lump on the bottom of one of the wings where the wing tube runs, but there are several other small things. But, from what I've been told, Horizon is good to deal with about such things. I'm collecting parts for mine now and hope to have it flying in the spring. I have a scratch build project I'm trying to finish now. I'm really looking forward to flying the 330X, since I've heard a lot of good things about how it flies.

I finally got the maiden on the Red 330LX yesterday. It has a ZDZ 180 on Proflow cans and was turning a 29x12EVO 3 blade prop for the test run yesterday. No where near enough prop for the beast. Even on the Proflows it was still ripping the snot out of the prop at just a touch over half throttle. I can definitely tell the difference in power from pipes to the Proflow cans but, the sound of the Proflows is awesome! I could just let it sit and run to listen to the exhaust note all day long. It is music to the ears :) I have a short clip of the 3rd flight and hope to get a longer one from another friend who was at the field for the maiden soon.

Thank you Rob! I love the sound from the Proflows and the fact that they are quiet. Time will tell on the power when I get back on the sequences and also throw the 30x13 3 blade Falcon up front :)
