The I'm going out flying thread 2016

It was a little easier to see than what the video shows and it was a very dark sky on the first flight. Definitely a less than ideal day for a maiden but I was determined to get it in the air. Ortho, Wayne flew your old BH Yak a few times too. He likes it and really likes the DA170 he got for...

The top of the wings were easy to see.

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Uploading a video to youtube now. Wife took it. It was long and boring though. First flight was just trim and getting the feel of it again. It was very overcast and dark. The sun did pop out for the third flight but she had left by then.

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Well, I get to post this in this thread instead of the workshop thread finally. Re-Maiden of the Hangar 9 SU26 today and after a few clicks of up elevator trim it was flying on rails. 45* inverted absolutely neutral so the CG is still spot on.

    Starting DA-150

Please just do not get careless. It's easy to do when you're fighting a starting problem. Flip here, choke there, flip, flip, forget what your doing and it unexpectedly starts. I've seen it happen too many times.

    Starting DA-150

Pretty much the same starting procedure as your 20-55cc engines. The only real difference is two cylinders and way bigger prop.

My wife and her friend painted the cowl screws for me today while I finished the wings. All ready to maiden as soon as the flood waters recede.

Headers and pipes installed. Reeds replaced along with all the associated gaskets. Throttle hooked up and adjusted. Wheels and wheel pants mounted. I use 5" Sullivan Skylites and have the wheel pants raised because I fly off some rough fields. I need to open some exit air in the bottom cowling...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I got the LG installed. I'm going to wait until almost last to put on the wheel pants so I don't beat them up in the shop. I installed the tank and ran a metal line out for the vent and another to the engine. I like to use metal lines as much as possible and then use a small piece of tubing to...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

The wife's Grandmother died yesterday so I haven't had too much shop time. I did manage to test fit the cowl and stripe it and get the tail wheel assy. mounted and working. My gaskets came in from DA so a little motor work is in my near future.

I always glance at them when I'm reaching for the switches. It's a nice quick check after a flight to see battery level and lowest voltage the RX saw during the flight.............and I'm a sucker for bling.

I'll be a little nervous, maybe more than if it was new out of the box. :omg:

I have actual moving control surfaces. All the wiring is in and done. If my DA and Tower order come in tomorrow I'll have it finished Saturday.

It's amazing how much faster you can pull stuff out compared to re-installing. I made pretty good headway though probably because I had help.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Well  I was moving one of the elevator halves and the servo locked. Hard. It finally freed up but now there is a little kink in it when you move it by hand. Off to Tower and I ordered a new gear set. No way I'm taking a chance of a servo locking up. I took the motor and pipes out. Lately...

That will be coming shortly. I'm using the CF gear off the other one and it will be one of the first things installed. Got to get it off it's belly and on it's feet. I got the shop cleaned up and made room for the other one. I also "shoe glued" in the pilot and dash panel and pin striped the...

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I put the final coat on the canopy and cowl halves . Couldn't resist setting the pilot in it. It's about time to start stripping the current flyer and installing in this one.But first I'm going to clean up the shop and make room. I have crap thrown everywhere and being only a 20' X 20' shop it's...
