71" AJ Slick Building, Flying, and Questions

Eh... OK, so now what? :) That's not a motor box. That's an entire plane in a flat IKEA box, basically! Anyone here who's done a motor box rebuild using the replacement kit?

Yup. One of those babies definitely has my name on it when they are released.

Building of the 30cc Slick 540 from Redwing RC!!!

"Need" is a very dangerous word to use in the context of RC planes. :)

Building of the 30cc Slick 540 from Redwing RC!!!

That's a really interesting comparison, Sappasit. It looks like they've made completely different design decisions on almost everything.

    Deans plugs current limit

My Beast pulls about 85A on a fresh pack. That's quickly dropping to 80A and below and the full throttle pulses are very short. Long term, I may switch to EC5, though.

    Deans plugs current limit

They're also rated for 75A 30s pulses. I doubt I ever do a full throttle run that's longer than that. The only issue is heat, really. If it doesn't get hot, I can't see what the issue is. (Famous last word... :) )

    Deans plugs current limit

I guess there's a simple test: I'm going to run it on full throttle for 30s. If the connector isn't hot, it's OK.

    Deans plugs current limit

What's the highest current you guys use Deans plugs for? I have a system that puts out a little over 80A on Deans. Should I be worried?

    Eflite Beast 60e

On another bright note, the Glacier 6s 5300mAh I bought for this plane are KICKING BUTT!!! I'm pulling 2100W and they come down at about body temperature. EP Buddy rocks. That is all.

    Eflite Beast 60e

OK. I see what you mean now. It's got a really nasty wing rock without gyro. It's a bit weird, but manageable, with the gyro on as well. I still like it though. It's great for doing crisp knife edge passes and slow rolls and it locks into hover really well. I bet it does rolling harriers well...

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

If this FPV pilot had followed the FAA rules, an old gentleman would probably have been dead now. http://www.examiner.com/article/amateur-drone-pilot-finds-man-missing-for-three-days (You have to watch a 20 second ad to read the article. It's worth it if you want some encouraging news for a...

    Eflite Beast 60e

Yeah, I hear you. My situation is a bit different, though: I basically bought a trailer that happened to have this plane in it. I had no expectations and I was prepared to part it out to recoup the money. But I think I enjoy flying it. If I want to show off my lack of 3D skills, I break out a...

    Eflite Beast 60e

I know. Then again, this is the setup I have and if I like it on the Guardian, why change a working setup? I'm willing to accept that it's simply a plane that needs some assistance from a gyro. Looking at it from a more philosophical perspective, most modern fighter jets are unflyable without...

    Eflite Beast 60e

I haven't seen what's so horrible about it yet, but that may be thanks to the gyro. Also, I don't expect it to fly like a edge/slick/extra. I'm expecting it to be a fun, great looking sport aerobat with some 3d capabilities.

Need Assistance In Motor Selection Please!

I'm not going to tell you that Leopard is junk, but I will tell you to be careful with high-energy maneuvers. I've seen some of the earlier ones spit magnets in poptops and tumbles (I had one do that myself). Now, that was an earlier version of the motor, so the problem may very well be fixed...

Building of the 30cc Slick 540 from Redwing RC!!!

Nice flying Sappasit! It's always great to have visitors from all over the planet. Out of curiosity, what are the most popular brands in terms of 3D planes in Thailand? I've heard Aeroplus is pretty popular in Asia. What else do you guys fly? Welcome to the forum! I hope you'll stick around!

    Eflite Beast 60e

I flew my Beast for the first time today. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to like it. I've never been into bipes and it's supposedly hard to fly low and slow. Well, color me surprised, but I really liked it! First of all, it looks AWESOME in the air. The roll rate is insane even on moderate...
