    3DHS 70" Velox

The Motrolfly 4325 should be fine. It can handle up to 2300W. I would start with an 18x8 and check the amps/watts. You should see around 2000W. If you see a lot less than that, you may want to try the 18x10. 2000W should be pretty nice on a 70" Velox, I think...

    3DHS 70" Velox

You can check it yourself using Hacker's prop and motor calculator here: http://www.ecalc.ch/motorcalc.php?hacker&lang=en&elevation=300 On a 18x8 prop, you'd get 1468W and on a 18x10, you'd get 1708W. Both values are above the 1250W which is the max rated power. Also, keep in mind that...

    3DHS 70" Velox

Did you measure the watts? A quick calculation indicates that you would pull north of 2000w on that setup. And over 100A! Ecalc.ch shows a motor temp of 244F!

    3DHS 70" Velox

You're running WAY too much prop for that motor. According to the Hacker site, it's designed for a 16x8-16x10 propeller and you're running a 19x8. Also, the motor is too weak for that plane. It's rated for 1250W. A plane that size needs around 2000W-2500W to fly well.

I may try a 22x8 on my DA50. It runs fine, just a little sluggish in acceleration.

    Servo torque help?

As for a formula, this works as long as the geometry is fairly linear: tcontrol = tservo * lservo / lcontrol Where tcontrol is the torque at the control. tservo is the torque at the servo lservo is the length of the lever at the servo (the length of the horn) lcontrol is the length of...

Haha, a tip from another old fart who can't fly 3D: Be careful! The 72 is a BEAST on the PTE36.

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

Be that as it may, I still don't understand what Spanish hillbillies almost capable of manned flight have to do with my little 350qx. If Spanish hillbilly copters is what they're after, regulate the Spanish hillbilly copters, but leave my tiny little quad alone! The problem with the proposed...

    Aerobeez 88" Slick 540 v2 (50cc)

Honestly, this video doesn't do him justice. It's an unfamiliar plane, he's holding back, the plane is a little nose heavy and he wasn't crazy about the setup... I have some footage of him flying his own plane that I'm going to post.

    Aerobeez 88" Slick 540 v2 (50cc)

Last weekend, I gave my good friend Zach ( zmonster97 ) the Sticks of my Aerobeez Slick and told him to be REALLY CAREFUL. So cut the guy some slack. This is the first time flying this plane and he's "careful". :) http://youtu.be/dwXrRRF3Ij0

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

But that's really not what we talked about here. I'll get to the aerial photography business later... My point had to do with the guy who occasionally appears in a video shoot for promotional material for an airplane vendor. And no, I don't think he needs to go through medical certification, and...

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

And even if you may get off the hook in a criminal case, you're exposed to huge liabilities in a civil case. Your insurance company will probably refuse to help because they say you weren't following he rules. In my opinion, there has to be an exemption for minor jobs and a route to do it...

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

That's all fine and dandy until you have an accident. Then the court will look at what your intent was and will follow the money and you'll have a heck of a time explaining why you got a payment for "consulting" every time the vendor posted a video featuring you. The problem isn't what happens...

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

...furthermore, there's no way to make that flight legal. Let's say the vendor really wants that video and really wants to play by the book. Currently, there is no certification, no exception, no license, NOTHING a vendor can do to legally pay someone to demo a plane. That makes no sense to me...

FAA 2014-0396- interpretation of new rule for Model Aircraft

Nope. But the definition of "illegal" is too strict in this case, IMHO. Let's consider the following scenario: I do some 3D with my friends at my local field. That flight is perfectly legal. The marketing guy for the maker of that plane shows up and asks me if he can shoot some video of me...
