    74" Edge 540

You will not be sorry for changing your radio. There is very little different in the DX-18 and the DX-9. The ability to do 4 servo wings, balancer, idle down mixes, knife edge mixing all make the experience so much better.

    Flying Withdraws Winter Sucks

The deal with the Polar Vortex is that the vortex looses strength and all that cold polar air sags down in the US. It might actually be warmer at the North Pole than the UP in Michigan.

    3dhs 92" edge 540 !!!

92 is done. 18.29 pounds without fuel. Had to relieve the cowling for the DA-70 spark plug on the left side.

Cost comparison, budget 60cc versus top shelf 30cc

In the 50cc size you can easily make the rudder removable, and take off the spinner and probably fit. The budget friendly planes tend to be of the previous generation sizes with fuse lengths in the 82-85" area. I think the redwing slick will fit in my truck with maybe just the spinner removed...

    Servo bench testing

I was selling a NIB DA-60 for a friend. He still has the motor, but had talked himself into keeping it for a future project. I can ask him again if you are interested.

    standard and metric rant!

I have a servo box full of those EF thumb screws. Patrick found this alternative and ordered a assortment for those other sizes, mainly 4-40 that 3DHS seems to use. They are press on, and best done with a drill press...

    Servo bench testing

I got a few more servos in and did some testing. We were using a Gecko ESC with the BEC set to 8.4V for these HK-15298 were 215-220 oz-in. Not bad for a $19 coreless HV servo. Savox 2230 were 500+ oz-in. At first we had a hard time keeping the servo in the tray. After both of us holding...

    Flying Withdraws Winter Sucks

It's snowing here in the Shire again. We have one day on Saturday forecast in the 40s. After that back to winter though. We are still 15 degrees below average.

Falcon makes a Beechwood 23x12. I have one I use on my Drastik to make it go fast. http://www.justmodelprops.com/products-page/falcon-2-blade-tractor-beechwood/falcon-23-x-12-beech-wood/

I just installed the stock exhaust on my DA-70 today. We have 2 fields that somewhat noise sensitive (one only if it is not a Cub). Neither of these do I drag my trailer to anymore so the 92 will just "live" with the 100cc planes anyways. Once headers are available I have 2 Evolution/MVVS...

    E-Flite Power 360

The Q80 was just stupid power. Took a while to get the Scorpion ESC to play nice with it. I just got mad about the canopy bolts, and enormous straps needed to keep that 4+ pounds of battery secured on top of the charging requirement, all for 5-6 minutes a flight. There is no substitute for...

    Aerobeez 90" Extra 330SC (50cc)

Aerobeez stayed true to their word. They shipped me a Red one today. Pretty stand up company. I am sure I will order parts and accessories from them now. I will compare it to my other 3DHS and EF 60cc planes and report back. I have a lot of motor choices to sort through. Lots of...

    Flying Withdraws Winter Sucks

The forecast says 44 degrees on Saturday. I have to work in the afternoon though. Actually flying to Hoth and back that day. Maybe I will be able to get out at least the 550 heli I built months ago.

    E-Flite Power 360

The LHS owner put one of these into a Aeroworks 50cc plane, but I have not seen it fly yet. The new Motrolfly 5335-189 is the current hot setup for 50cc electric. Another option is the expensive Hacker Q80-8M, which I had for a while on a 89 slick. You know Horizon stands behind their...

Cost comparison, budget 60cc versus top shelf 30cc

The 78" planes are tweeners as they require basically the same servos as a 50cc, and the motor options are similar in cost to the 60cc budget build as that planes needs the VVRC 40 or a piped 35cc. These are a great compromise if you have transport issues for the 60cc. Also shipping cost on...

    Aj aircraft 93,73,56 laser

After listening to the podcast I plugged in Andrews 73" setup into Aeroplayin 's calculator. I had the A60-5S in the past and had issues with it, but I was one of the first to get one and I was using what turned out to be weak batteries and a plane probably too big for the setup. This is...

    Aerobeez 90" Extra 330SC (50cc)

You also have to add in the RX batts for a gasser which will add half a pound. Still pretty good.

No, Hitec 5565s. I have the same servos across my current 30cc 3D fleet, and my buddy has 2 sets as well. Now we have had to both send some back for service, but they are super quick for the amount of torque they have. I am not 100% confident in their centering as I was having issues with my...

I am doing this is maximize the voltage to the servos at all times. I run just straight lipos in all my other gassers. Actually as I was typing this I remembered I need to rewire my 71 slick and it already has the switch I was going to use installed. Same servos too. Yippee.
