Don't know, would like to put the fabric on when the weather is good and I can work outside.

The steak and lobster fest took it's toll on today's productivity, did manage to get the fuselage sitting on the front paws and hind leg. Switched the drawings around, removed the plan section and got the sectional drawing taped down. Added the gussets to the top longerons. There was no...

The firewall and stringers are in. It is easier to draw the plane than build it. The plans show a nice radius on the stringers with everything else being nice straight lines. There was no way that was happening. To control the bending the straight formers were added in front of the bend, saw...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Ran out of work on the boat sooner than I thought, back home at 1300 so got more done this afternoon. Installed the formers on the bottom side, the stringers and firewall are next. Also added gussets to the bottom longerons, these glue on three sides plus grab the cross braces. Finally the...

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

Got up early today and installed rear fittings and tail wheel mount. The rear fittings also act as the lift strut attachment so it is in tension when flying, the plans showed an additional 3/8" thick piece of wood on top for the 3/8" x 3/8" and 1/4" x 3/8" spruce cross pieces, I thought it was...

Managed to get the last six landing gear fittings finished tonight after the grandsons went home, mounted the struts on the front fittings, really like the way they work. After looking at various planes on airliners.net decided the Cub tires just would not look right, found these DuBro 5 1/2"...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

I use tee nuts and red loctite, can't say that I've had any major problem, my Christen Eagle was built in 2005 and my One Design was built in 2008.

Got a little done this AM, silver brazed the main strut bearing together, a 3/16" piece of plywood is sandwiched between the steel plates and a 3/8" x 3/4" spruced is backed, everything is jointed with 4-40 screws. Everything got painted with epoxy before assembling, the assembly got mated with...

Here are the first six still screwed together, the are resting on the newly installed 1/8" lite floor. The plans call for 1/8" aircraft plywood floor, just didn't see the need for that. The floor ties the lower longerons, cross pieces and firewall together. It is about 27" long and installed...

On Monday and Wednesday we watch the grandsons, 4 and 2 years old, they were wound up today didn't get much done, spent the evening making 1/16 steel fittings for the landing gear mounts, need 12 pieces in total, still have 6 to go. I cut the blanks oversized, drilled and screwed together then...

Scale 1/3 Scale Extra 330L Build.

It is amazing how well one side of the sticks to everything, while the other side is so slippery. It's a wonder it sticks to itself?

Managed to get the fuselage formed up. Switched from coffee to Miller Lite, currently bending the front longerons with paper towel soaked with ammonia using a bungee cord to pull them together. The plywood is clamped in place to keep the cabin floor straight while the wood is being bent...

Bought a laser level when doing the bathroom last spring, can find so many uses for it. Here checking the vertical and horizontal centerlines are plumb when the firewall is fit into the fuselage sides. In the past this would be a "I hope it's right"

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

The manual doesn't suggest a specific length, just route to bottom of the plane. Got the left side off the bench. Been thinking about the sharp break on the lower longeron, the plans indicate a butt joint with two 1/4" balsa gussets on each side. Simulated a bend once the side removed and of...

The crankcase is vented to allow drainage, the drain tubing is provided with the engine, the drain is larger than regular fuel tubing. Suspect this is required for bottom end lubrication, recommend 30 to 1 premix.
