1/16" sheeting is fine for foam if you are going over 1# foam, I would use 3/32" over foam ribs, my favorite wing construction. Here's a foam rib wing that I just finished before starting the Champ.

Kits are becoming harder and harder to find for sure. I ordered the cowl and wheel pants for the Aerobat this morning from Fiberglass Specialties. Sent a note off the WE Technical as well. You never know when the suppliers will go away. Spent the day playing cards, nothing accomplished today.

My trip to the Lebanon flee market yielded a Hostetler Cessna Aerobat 150 short kit and plans along with a 33% W. E. Technical Piper PA 22 Tripacer cowl and wheelpants. Both for $60.00. I'm pretty sure the cowl and wheel pants were made by Fiberglass Masters that is no more, both are blue...

There's not a lot of reviews out there and I have read those I could find. What made my decision easy was two or three years ago I seen a Roto 85 in a Hanger 9 Super Decathlon and performed great. I can't wait to see. Might have to set it up in a stand?

Scale RCM 1/3 Scale Champ Build

First the bottom section is installed. Three 4-40 screws on each side. Then the nose bowl. A bunch of 2-56 button heads. Finally the top goes on, more 2-56 button heads and four 4-40's from the back side. Still need to make a hole for the carburetor and velocity stack to poke through. Then...

Got the engine mounted to the firewall. I really don't care for standoffs but with this engine you have no choice but to use them. I had originally planned to extend a box out then use shorter standoffs but decided that made no sense. Turned 4 custom length standoff's on the lathe.

Cut out 1/4" plywood firewall and mounted the cowl to it. The lower half gets bolted on from the front of the plane, then the bowl section, finally the upper half gets bolted to the lower half and bowl, there are 4 4-40 screws that get tighten form the interior that fasten the upper half to the...

Managed to get the three pieces back into one. There are 20 2-56 blind nuts and screws holding it together. Tried to put all of the screws in the same location as the full scale. There are more on the bottom than the top, I guess the top is the last piece to install? Still picking the thick...

Yes the springs will get hardened and tempered. Propane torch in a brick enclosure until the steel becomes non magnetic, then oil quench, tempered in the Whilpool oven.

Time to split the cowl. The cowl was leveled to the angle of the nose bowl and a laser level was used to lay out the cut line. The nose was removed and began making the flanges for the cowl section. Doing one side at a time, no hurry. A piece of 1/32" ply and pairs of magnets are used to...

The strongest spar would have the top and bottom fibers as far away as possible but I would but it on the bottom so that the corners could be knocked off with a sanding bar.
