The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I've been working on the carb on my GP61. Ever since it was new I had to run the needles at 2 3/8 on the low and 1 on the high. It ran fine like that for over 3 gallons, but I've been having some issues with it lately and I decided it was time to take a look at the carb. This engine always...

Share your ideas for safe pre-flight and flying

I had never really thought about how a left hander would do it, but what you say makes sense, plus your prop is mounted the same as mine, your just flipping the bottom blade instead of the top. I know exactly what you mean about the guys speed flipping. Your just waiting for it to start and...

Share your ideas for safe pre-flight and flying

My routine is pretty much the same. I do need to check my batteries more often though. One thing I'm picky about is prop position. If the prop is on compression with the blade at 2 o'clock when I flip it my hand and body are going away from the prop and airplane. There was a guy in the club...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Between flying season, maintenance on my other planes and pure laziness, I haven't worked on it lately.

I figured out not long after I got the pump out of the box that the magnet was a joke. It has no holding power at all. The lip at the top hooks over the plate and I used a wire tie to hold the bottom and to keep it from sliding up and coming off the lip. The pump survived it's first day out...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Just got home from an all day outing at the field. Since I did gassers yesterday I took my Trex 550 and my Goblin 570 helis today. It was only my second time out with helicopters this year. As much as I like the Trex 550, the Goblin will fly circles around it.;) I think it made it up to 90...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

Went flying today. It was a pretty nice day, but for some reason my head just wasn't into it. I did get a few good flights on my Pilot Edge. It's supposed to be good tomorrow as well, so I think I'll take the helicopters out if I can work up ambition.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I usually used a wire brush that goes in a drill that has all the bristles sticking straight out in line with the shaft. But even though I looked for about an hour I couldn't find it, so took CA and I glued a piece of red Scotchbrite to a Dremal grinding stone with a flat front and put that in...

    Basic engine tuning.

It's never really had a mid range burble, and up until recently it's run really well, but I've always wondered why the needle settings were so strange.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I tried doing some tuning on my GP61 today because I wasn't all that happy with how it sounded last weekend. I had a bit of trouble getting it to pop on the choke like it hadn't been run in months. The needle adjustment on it has been odd since the first time I tuned it. I ended up with the low...

The I'm going out flying thread 2016

The weather is supposed to be good tomorrow. I was going to take my Composite ARF Extra , but it's got some issues so I'm taking my Pilot Edge. The weatherman hasn't been worth a darn guessing the wind lately, so hopefully tomorrow will be good.

    Basic engine tuning.

@Terryscustom on my GP61 when I first installed it in my Carf Extra I ended up with the needles way off of the 1.5 turns to make it run and perform correctly. I have always tuned very much like you said in your first post and was always pretty happy with my results. On the GP I started at 1.5...
