The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I had a rudder cable come apart when I was flying a friends DA200 powered Carf Sukhoi. I did a Poptop with left rudder and it did it really cool so I tried to do another and it wouldn't do it. I made a right rudder knife edge pass across the field and then handed him the transmitter. He landed...

At the club I was in when I first started in 85 most of the members couldn't make a right turn, much less use the rudder. You could fly around yourself there so it looked like a stock car race with everyone flying a left turn oval pattern.

I enjoyed Dave from DA talking about the history of the company and hinting of things in the future.

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

I sanded the top, bottom and trailing edge of the stabs and then finished up putting the glass cloth on the stabs by doing the tips. After the resin cured I sanded the tips and put the second coat of resin on both stabs.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

I have a recliner that does that! I did make it into the workshop yesterday afternoon for a bit and worked on my scratch build project. Planning on working on it again this afternoon. After all the hype on the news about our first snow of the year, and all the idiots raiding the stores for...

    Starting a new DLE-61

I've never need to do it, but they say if you just loosen the big single screw and then pressurize the vent, than will do it too.

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

The picture I posted is my flying buddies Carf Sukhoi. It also has a small hole in front of the carbs just for the reason you said. There is also a plate out of view in the picture that makes sure all of the air entering the open area of the cowl has to go out through the cylinders. It works...

Sport CARF Pitts - Engine Upgrade

Mike, I am certainly no expert on this, but I'd be afraid the rear cylinders might not cool as well as you'd like. A flat plate that splits the cylinders at the plugs and causes all the air to flow over all 4 cylinders from the top and out the bottom, seems to be the choice for most people.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Mike, that snow forecast doesn't bother me, it's the idiots that have to rush to the store and get supplies because they're afraid they're going to be snowed in from the inch or so of snow. Between that, and the 800 million dollar PowerBall, the convenient store was an absolute ZOO on the way...

Scale 50cc Scratch Build From My Own Design Revisited

Mine was all done with narrow planks glued on one at a time over stringers attached to bulkheads. Each plank is beveled on each edge by a modified balsa strip cutter. I used CA to glue the strips to the airframe, and Sigment to glue the planks to each other. Sigment sands really easily.

The 'What did you do in your workshop tonight?' thread

Nice! I saw a lot of nice ones over the years from drag racing. Pontiacs REALLY blew up neat! I saw an oil pan off a 400 Pontiac that looked like you went nuts on it with a 12 gauge. A buddy of mines big block Chevy was so bad one time that the camshaft looked like a derailed train, most of...

The Solartex will be painted along with the glassed areas. I've painted Solartex many times with great results. I have a Great Planes Super Sportster hanging from the ceiling in my garage at home that is about 25 years old. It's covered with either Worldtex or Solartex and painted with...

A good salvage yard would have one off already, but if it's a self serve it's time to get dirty.
