Found this quite interesting.. But the slats? They look wierd, dont they? -Very high opening in the back..

Neat plane - No Doubt. The LE devices move with the flaps from what I could see - they are not fixed. Usually the inlet to outlet is 1:2 on LE devices. Their main purpose is to allow a higher angle of attack at stalled speeds. I'm curious to see how they work in the Shock Cub when flying. Other examples is the Helio, Highlander, superstol that use self deploying LE slats. They pop out when turbulent airflow on top of the wing pops them out - pretty neat system. Not sure how the full scale Shock Cubs LE devices work.

Thanks to @RC80AK the planning of the new gear for the Timber is almost done. Just a need a couple of dimensions and need to do cad drawing for the bend radius and then all the planning will be done. Then all I have to do is wait for the aluminum to show up and make it.
Please note most of the dimensions will change as the bending radius’s are added in.

Looks like a mad scientist was hard at work there. LOL!! Awesomeness being re-created right there!

Finally got my 6.25" Airtops installed! So nice!!
I ended up using an 8mm x 120mm hex head bolt from Lowes cutting off almost all of the threads, as well as the hex head. I used JB Weld to increase the diameter that fits inside the gear slightly, and then used an 8mm Nut with nylon lock to hold the tires on. That way the tires can be mounted and secured, and then the assembly is slid into the gear. Works great!

Anyone building this model you need to upgrade the landing gear and tires. I made an error when buying my Airtops, so I have an unopened set. They come with 6mm bearings. I will also include a set of 8mm bearings. Then you have two options -- use an 8mm bolt like I did, or use a 6mm bolt and use some bushings to increase from 6mm to 8mm to fit into the xcub sprung gear. I will include those bushings also. These Airtop tires (6.25" 160mm) are $75 + shipping. I will sell you the unopened tires with 8mm bearings, and 6mm bushings including shipping for $69. USPS Priority Mail. Message me if interested. I have a great trader rating on Rcgroups.

Maiden-day!! 25min of flying... 10 smoooth landings with and without full flaps!! Amazing aircraft. Flies like a trainer and no issues with the RCGF56cc motor (actually impressed with how smooth it runs!!) --absolutely love this aircraft!!

awesome! What tail wheel is that? I need to come up with something that has better response than the stock one with the springs. One broke and I replaced them with some from the hardware store, but my steering on the ground is delayed.

The make is unknown.. found it in the “box”. The holder is a AKNick’s design. Works great!
(note that I had to add weight to it to balance the 56cc out)

Ya I need to find a better setup. They sell the xcub tailwheel for this plane also, but haven't heard about it. My stock tire slips off the hub on occasion, and my inputs to keep it straight after landing are significantly delayed because of the springs. Maybe I can go stronger springs. Can you replace the springs with music wire, or will that not work?

Nice flight report! Bravo!

Glad it works for you! FWIW the ball links below the top plate gave me a little better breaking torque.

Those leaf springs move back and forth on each other, I foresee that tape giving up eventually. Also the flex in the aluminum will probably pop them off as well. My weights are under the Horizontal on each side.

Music wire would be too stiff. You could try the silicone fuel tubing method.
